  • In Car DVD

    Hello All,

I have a 2006 Prado 120 series with sunroof. i want to install a overhead DVD Player.

Has anyone done this or knows how it can be done. Apparently the existence of Sunroof complicates matters.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Jay,

I have a '06 GXL and I recently fitted a 15inch roof mount DVD myself. I don't have a sun roof, and didn't have to contend with that, but the process for fitting one should be the same.

What you need to achieve is a solid platform to mount (screw) your DVD unit mounting plate onto. I achieved that by removing the centre interior light, and installing a piece of plywood in it's place (the size of the DVD mount plate), between the roof, and hood lining (about a 1 1/4 inch thickness).

I happened to talk to a pro installer before I started, and he told me that he just uses liquid nails to glue the plywood in. I did this and left it for a couple of days to cure, then screwed onto it - solid as a rock. The wiring was reasonably straight forward, just time consuming.

To be honest, the biggest problem I had was taking the step to cut the hood lining to fit the plywood in....seemed wrong to cut into a new car, wasn't sure that the liquid nails would work etc, etc.......but was all good in the end..........and the kids love it.

    Don.

      I've had a JVC all-in-one unit installed with a 9inch screen.

Apparently the sunroof is not a problem - the unit obviously replaces the interior light with its own built-in interior light, but the installation is solid.

The biggest piece of mucking about with the installation is getting the roof-bracket in, to help secure it firmly.

The kids love the cordless headphones, which also means that I can play music, instead of hearing endless re-runs of the teletubbies...

I relied on the services of a competent installer, which is usually the best security.

        Thank you for your assistance.

What is the model number of the JVC DVD Player that you have installed and how was the roof bracket affixed?

          KV-MRD900 9 inch widescreen display with built-in DVD player. RRP $1,599. See it at http://www.jvc-australia.com/products/_ ... sp?ID=1401

I don't know how they put the bracket in - they offered to let me watch, but I couldn't bear to see them pull the car apart.

Like food in a restaurant, I thought it best not to know how they did it, as long as the end result was OK.

Just resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has fitted (or had fitted) a ceiling mount DVD player recently.

What brand, model etc was it?
            How much?
Comments - good, bad, ugly etc.

              Roof mounted DVD

I fitted a 10.2 inch Nesa vision DVD player into the wifes Prado about 2 years ago. It cost about $950 back then and it came with 2 cordless headphones and remote. The screen swivels 270 degrees and I am toying with the idea of fitting a reversing camera upto it as well. It has really good definition and it has paid for itself many times over on the long trips to the in-laws farm and holidays up to Qld. I think the unit I purchased is even cheaper now from JB HiFi.

I'll take some pics and post them up if it helps

              Cheers

To the guys who have fitted the roof mounted screens - how much space is there in the roof lining and along the top of the windscreen for wiring?

I am planning to install a roof mounted PC touchscreen but am unsure of whether there will be too much wiring to fit neatly :?:

                Thanks in advance
                H

                  Roof cavity

I had it professionally installed but from memory there was about 20mm cavity there so you should have plenty of room to run your cables. Pop the interior light out and have a look around that and you'll see what I mean.

                  Cheers

                      Re: In Car DVD

Does anyone have pictures of a roof mounted DVD in a Pardo with a sunroof, I have fitted three roof mount dvds into prados and pathfinders for friends and ourself, but we have just brought a Prado Grande with a sunroof and was looking a putting in a roof mounted player, but it looks as if the screen will be very close to the kids sitting in the back. Would like to see some pictures of anyone who has one installed into there Prado with a sunroof.

The best way I choose is searching on some authoritative websites for suitable stores to get a high quality car DVD player , avoiding the cheating behavior, I choose EBay.
