  • IPF 900xs Spotties

    Gents,

Can anyone who has first hand experience with these lights give me some feedback. I would like to know about their performance, longevity, and the strength of the light in general including the mounts. Do they move much? Are they worth the money?

    Thanks in advance.

    Dave.

    IPF 900XS spotties

    Hi Dave

I have these lights currently fitted, previously I have had three sets of IPF 900 series lights, one set still mounted to a Nissan Patrol (four years of age). Myself personally will not use any other lights as they are excellent for light output and strength and have to date cleaned up no less than 5 roos on outback roads and the only damage incurred was a broken clear plastic cover. I went to the XS because of a trip we will be doing next year where we may anticipate some water fording. The only thing I have done is changed the globes, which are a 65Watt halogen (H9) for a blue globe 4000K and I have found this has made a great deal of difference to the light output and visibility.

All I need to do now is look at upgrading the headlights to HID because even though I have upgraded the globes with a 30% increase they are still crap. I also haven't been able to find a H9 upgrade in HID

I've currently got a 900XS spot and think it is great. Beats the other (more expensive) Cibies I also run.

IPF are pretty robust and reasonable value. I recommend them and would use them again.

I'm going to go to their HID light, once my new bar arrives...

        Hi DaveNQ1.
I have 2 spots and 1 spread in the IPF 900XS.

When they were new I only had 1 of each. I hated that combo.
Got the extra spot and MAGNIFICENT

The mounts are strong and I haven't needed to re-adjust them at all.

        Recommended.

I'll add my thumbs up to the 900XS's.

I have two driving pattern lights on the bar and they fill in the factory lighting well.

I also have a pair of driving pattern Cibie Super Oscar’s on my other truck and they are also very good.

I believe that the XS's are physically built better than Super Oscar's, but optically the Super Oscar’s are still very good.

I went for two driving pattern XS lights because I find that the spot pattern is too focused for use in tight bush. The spot would be great when you are out in the open etc, but tight in I prefer the driving pattern.

Jacto. Where did you get your H9 globes? Are they a higher power rating than the original globes or just a different colour temperature?

          Cheers,

          Paul.

            Hi Paul

The globes son in law purchased were 4000K and the light output is definitely whiter and took a little getting used to. It wasn't until I did a trip to Qld and got onto some lonely outback roads that I could really see the difference as I am running two spots and have never liked a combo set of lights. Cost was $12 pair and I initially thought can't be much cop at that price but then thought what the hell worth a try. Purchased 2 sets (4 globes) because son in law is running 800XS's so including postage worked out a $9 each. This is the link on ebay

I have been running these globes for about 3 months now with no problems but with old age creeping up fast I need more light at night so am going to upgrade to HID conversion in both headlights and spots. Again probably going to go the cheap way so don't lose too much if it doesn't work out all the flash. Will soon see anyway.

I also have a set of 900 series, they are on my work truck and were on my previous one also, cop a very hard life on the front of it, other than a bit faded are still as good as new, would have coverd about 200 k or so.
              Highly recomended !

But as much as I hate to say it the cheap pieces of crap on my Prado ( Narva pencil beams ) have been very reliable also ! they were dealer fitted to a bullbar of a Nissan Navara ute from new which then travelled 250 k in use as a forest mechanics ute before I aquired them and have now done about 20k on the front of the Prado, I guess they have survived because they are light weight, no comparrison to the IPFs for light output, but you get what you pay for.

I know this is an old thread but what prices have you guys paid for lights only with loom?

                Thanks

Just had a look, the 900's are that price but the 900XS are $320 without loom. Tricky little bugger. They come with loom from ARB.

They're still cheaper. I got quoted $457 with clear covers from ARB. Just bought them off ebay for $415 delivered.
