  • Toyota car alarm

Has anyone tried to verify that there OEM alarm is functioning correctly. Should the alarm sound if the door is opened from the inside with the alarm activated. Can someone verify if this is the case? Open a window and then lock the door. Reach in and open the door from the inside does this cause the alarm to sound? I ask this because my Prado was broken into while in the driveway but no entry damage was done to access the vehicle.

    Regards

I just tried it on a Grande, and it worked spot on, Have a look at Page 29-30. of the owner manual, explains it there.

Once you have locked the car the dash (security) indicator will be illuminated until it arms (30 seconds) if you then reach thru and unlock a door it goes off ! (And is frikn loud!)...

If you do it under 30 seconds it simply disables the alarm (using inside door lock or key in door) acts as if the remote has been pushed again.

You have to make sure the time delay has expired. The dash light (on speedometer cluster) has to be flashing not steady.
Mine didnt work the first time either.

My GXL's got an alarm - but it's obviously an aftermarket add-on ops:

            Still - it works

I have been meaning to ask my dealer about the alarm because the owners manual doesn't seem to differentiate between models and it implies that all models are fitted (unless I am misreading) My car goes in for service next Wed so I'll try and remember to ask.

I remember going through this when I got my 120. I couldn't get the alarm to sound and I assumed it was a Grande thing.

My car alarm is my three Border Collies. They chase any wallabies away who are looking shady around our truck. As you can guess, I live in a country village - it's pretty relaxed up here.

Mind you if there are any would be thieves reading this, there's the crazy old guy up here with a fully functioning MG42 and he ain't afraid to give it a burst when anyone who looks like they came from the big smoke comes within cooee.

                      Jacto,
I like a lot of others have tried to test the alarm that doesn't exist.
It is a Grande fitment ONLY.
Handbook is a bit misleading it also makes mention of seat height adjustment, but alas VX & Grande ONLY.

Even Toyota weren't to sure they had to read their own sales brochure to make sure?

I think it is about time that Toyota had a separate manual for each model so there couldn't be any misunderstanding.

Hey Matt, they were some cool (pun) pics from the other day, we have been hanging out for snow at Barringtons but unfortunately I was in Sydney when it happened. I have used the Tomala road quite a bit especially when snowing. Guess it is just a matter of picking when its gonna snow.

Can believe I have been driving around thinking I had an entry alarm for over 4 years. Will have to look at getting an entry alarm fitted. I was also lucky to have no problems with the insurance claim based on not having a suitable alarm fitted (told the insurance I had an OEM alarm).

I rang my dealership today and they confirmed that the GXL does not have an alarm only an immobiliser fitted.

Thanks too all who tried to confirm my suspicions.

                          Regards
