  • Hard wire kit for a radar detector (Beltronics RX-65)

hi i want to hard wire the radar detector
i have purchased a Hard wire kit from ebay
it comes with a T-Tap Conector

they say to attach the spade terminal to a fused positive lead and ground via the ring terminal at or near the fuse panel.

i have a 07 D4D i have opend the fuse box in the drivers side which wire should i use as i only want the radar detector to turn on when the acc or when the car is running

will this cause a warranty issue

    cheers Phil

i wouldn't worry too much about warranty... if your in australia, the unit itself is illegal..

        Hi
Police actually have a device on there radars that can detect if you have a radar detector.

Rob (ps Its cheaper not to speed in the first place)

nice one! apologies i didn't know that, thought it was broadly australia!

i don't think you'll have warranty issues related to where you source the power, although for a "profesh" install, probably worth using power direct from the battery and a relay to trigger the accessory power.

that said, in my haste to get things installed without worrying too much about the "profesh"ness (new word that one), i've piggybacked the wiring off the power that goes into the cigarette lighter under the stereo... easy to get to!

i don't have a radar detector, illegal in QLD. actually i think it's illegal to even have one in your car, although that may not be right..

it's other things that i was talking about when i said i powered them from behind the centre dash.

back of the ciggie or power socket is certainly the easiest for stuff like that.

Ahhhh the good old days when radar detectors were legal...........

There is supposedly a Highway Patrol car around Deniliquin area with a radar detector detector, not all cars are fitted with them.

I have a Bel radar detector and used a voltage meter to track down a live ignition wire fairly simple to operate as you simply ground the unit and push through the wire insulation with the probe whilst the ignition is on and when you find a live one turn off the ignition to see if it goes off then plumb into that.

I have a Bel XTI XR that is apparently undetectable, with the Multinova cameras I get 300-400metres warning on KA band (Measured by repeatedly driving through every Multinova I came across when I first got the unit with the trip meter). With the K Band units mounted in Police Cars I get at least a 1 Km and with the lasers they are pretty much instant and harder to pick up but when it goes off on laser you basically whack on the brakes immediately so they have difficulty getting a lock on your speed.

I use the detector simply as a reminder just in case I creep over the limit without thinking and come across a Multinova hiding in the bushes, not so much so I can speed all the time.

Not just illegal in most parts of Australia, but useless at detecting the lasors they now use.

I don't think so. I **cough** inherited a laser detector from my late father, and it works just fine in NSW

I never installed it in the car because I don't really need it, and can't afford the massive fine that goes with getting sprung with one.

My father, on the other hand did need one because he had a WRX and liked to drive a lot faster than I would. He also had a Whistler remote mounted unit which he had modded by the manufacturer a few times to keep up with detector-detector technology. He never was detected.
