Portable power packs

I have been thinking about buying a portable power pack, as an alternative to a dual battery system, that has the ability to jumpstart a diesel engine and also run a engel (40l) fridge while out of the vehicle. The two I have found so far seem to be up to the job. A "Bushranger Powertank" http://www.bushranger.com.au/12volt_powertank.php
or a "Projecta HP1500" http://www.projecta.com.au/catalogue/cid/27/asset_id/63

Interested to know if anyone has had any experience with this type of setup. I think the bushranger is a little over $500 but not sure about the projecta.

I noticed a south african made battery box at the Perth 4x4 and camping show. Looked like a good unit and had battery meters and cig plugs, hella plugs etc already installed in it. Was somewhere around the $500+ from memory.
I can't remember the make of it but I'll search around and see what I can find.

Have a look at these also . We use them at work every day sometimes to start Trucks. http://www.portapower.com.au/pages/jumpstarters.htm We use the 12 Volt LS3500 – 1600 Amp . I dont know about running the fridge off them, I would run everthing off the car battery and use the jump pack if it dosent start. No point in having the jump pack if its flat in the morning (runs the fridge all night ) and the car still dosent start.

I have to say that the "thumper" from "home of 12 volt" in Adelaide is excellent.
We had a little trouble with ours due to a camper trailer manufacturer linking it up to an incorrect battery charger(240V to 12V). It also comes with the kit to "charge on the go" from the car. That disconnects as soon as ignition is off.

After much communication between me and camper man it was sorted directly with the guys in Adelaide. We were on a trip and they swapped out the old one, threw in a new one, gave me a new charger and the rest is history.

The size that I had was not the size they make anymore so they made one up for me, They are also making Fridges with a power pack in them that can jump a vehicle, run lights etc. Before the waeco made theirs if I'm not mistaken.

It also has a battery condition readout, which can be used to show current :shock: voltage whilst camping, as well as while charging. 2 Cig lighter outlets, and 2 Hela type which are fuse protected with in the unit. .
