Satanav Problem

Evening all

Thought I'd let you all know of a problem I have with the standard Prado Grande satnav. About a month ago the unit started displaying an error message on a black screen saying couldn't read the disc - dirty or damaged - to that effect anyway. Did the obvious - clean the disc. Made no difference. Rang Toyota, they said disc was buggered and needed to be replaced - no surprises there taking the easy option :shock: . I argued and said that the disc had never been out of the unit!!

After a week or two, the problem went away for about a month and then returned with more issues. The unit was very slow on virtually all commands including the radio etc. and the vehicle icon would not stay on the road.

Anyway took it in for the 50K service last week and Toyota advised the unit was buggered and would need to be replaced . It will take about two weeks to get a new one and another day in the workshop :roll: .

Point is make sure that if you have disc reading problems you get them to test the unit before shelling oput a heap for a new disc!!

I take it that none of this was under warranty, by the sounds of your post

If not, then they should be reimbursing you the cost of having to buy the extra satnav disc.

hi there

i'm startign to get problems with my satnav too... direction icon is often not on the road, some MP3 disks that were once fine are no longer being recognised and the whole thing freezes occasionally.

Seperate issue but i also have the engine warning light, plus others (VSC Off, TRC off) permanently on - getting looked at on Wed. Just did a big trip to the Vic High Country that included shallow river crossings, maybe the water/dust has affected things..

Thought I'd give you all on update on my progress.

Toyota advised that they would call within 2 weeks to let me know my relacement satnav had arrived. Well, I gave them three and a half weeks - no call :x. The guy went and had a look and said they had forgot to order it and they would ring when it came in.

A couple of days later the guy rings me back and said they now cannot replace he unit unless they try a new disc first. They will take one out of a demo car to try in mine he says. Pointed out the obvious - why didn't thery do this before :x. Now another trip to the dealer.

I told him that if it was the disc then I expect that it would be replaced under warranty. I got a yes it would be but his reply wasn't that convincing.

We'll see what happens next? My bet is now that I'll have to wait longer again for either a new disc or a new unit.

Sat Nav dramas

Maybe the Yanks are getting ready to do same damage and want to shake the oppsition? On a serious not the chap with the VSC problem check your ABS sensors, mine copped a rock and broke the RHR ABS sensor and sent the computer driving safety stuff into fail safe mode, I did'nt know waht was wrong neither did the dealwer for a few hours !!

latest with mine is that after ordering a replacement speed sensor the problem still hasn't been fixed, they now think its the wiring that could be faulty...they need it another day (they say!) making it 4 days in the workshop so far. I'll suggest the ABS sensor to them as suggested here if it's not the witing to the speed sensor...

The final chapter of the satnav problem.

Took the car in this morning and they put in a "borrowed" disc. Low and behold - it worked! They were humming and haaaing over whether I would get the disc replaced under warranty or not :? but I told them that I expected it to be (a warranty) claim as the disc had never been out of the unit!!

Said they would call within a few days to let me know. Anyway, they called this afternoon to tell me my disc was there and to come and pick it up - no charge . An even nicer surprise was that it was the very latest version 14 :lol: .
