Wheres the option for telstra can stick it where the sun dont shine...

Though, i am sure that up there you would need the Telstra HSDPA network as its replacing CDMA right?

If it was me i would be sticking to either Samsung or Nokia.

Both good with reliability generally, and after sales service i have found to be rather good.

You can't go passed athe nokias. I've always had them but went motorola when I changed to next g...

I've got the V6 maxx, although it does the job, it's not as easy to use as a nokia.

Also don't be confused with 3G and NextG. 3G is mainly around cities and runs at 2100mhz, Next G is Aus wide and runs at 850mhz (same as CDMA, hence the change over). So if you're planning on going to Next G make sure you get a compatible handset as a 3G handset won't work. If you stick to telstra's compatible handset list on their website you won't go wrong.

              Hey Hutch,

When you leave the 3 network area (3G) you jump onto to Telstra GSM 2G. This is why you can't video call etc when you leave the 3 network area.

Telstra really do have a monopoly with Next G, it's virtually everywhere. From my experience it's got exceptional coverage compared to GSM. I even had a video chat with my brother who was way up the top of the cape!

I bought my phone off ebay and went straight on a $49 cap. You get $250 worth of calls, I have never gone over it and have halved my mobile phone bill.

If anyone is interested I made up an excel spreadsheet with a few of the different plans. You put in your monthly calls and it spits out an approximate monthly cost.

                  Very interesting topic!!
I have an Imate Jas Jam which doesn't like Prado bluetooth but is next G. It also has the abiility to switch between next G signal and GSM where Next G is unavailable, like most Next G phones, so I am told.
Last week I returned from a trip of over 4 1/2 thousand KMs for work in 11 days, through western NQ and FNQ replacing modems on my companies equipment that was CDMA and now thanks to me is Next G.
My mate had a Nokia 6120 and I never beat him for coverage!!!!
We installed Comms units in Hughenden, Winton, Richmond, Cloncurry, Normanton, Kurumba, Croydon, Georgetown, Mt. Surprise, Mt. Garnet, Ravenshoe, Dimbulah, Mt. Molloy, Lakelands, Cooktown, Hopevale and Cairns.
A lot of sites were remote to the township and upon the upgrade worked just as well.
Most towns had coverage, but outside you did lose it. Considering it should cover 98% of civilisation it worked a fair bit. - Just not all the time.
Further more I have not heard good reports on Samsung and LG seem to be of poor reception also. Nokia is not doing car kits (not that Prados need them) for their 6120's. Jasjams are only better after the software patch has been applied.

I have a 6120 and my old 6010i (GSM). The 6120 doesn't really get much more service so I use my radios back to home !

I have given up on the old diesel smoke signals, the bloody prado just doesn't blow enough out the exhaust to make them effective anymore

Happy to report the Next g probably had service 95% of the time vs 2/3G probably only 75%, their was a few occassions that the 3g had more service than the NG was for long though. The trip was Brissie, Roma, Rocky, brissie.

Yeah I must say that with my JasJam I have only seen it a 3 times in the last 6 months that it works on 3G cause next G is gone. Generally it is next G or nothin

Mine is an LG on the Next G network. The phone randomly turns itself off and we certainly do not get reception "everywhere we want it". In fact, there are some places within 10k of Toowoomba's CBD where we get no receptiion. Telstra :?:

No other real option here if you intend travelling much outside town tho.

Hutch, where we have the reception problem is down Flagstone Creek Road. Soon as you drop over the side it becomes unreliable and in places, totally non existent! Never had any trouble to the West either.

I have wondered if the LG phone contributes!
