  • Temporarily Disabling Reversing Sensors

    Hi guys,

Has anyone got any ideas to temporarily disable the reversing sensors? When towing, they are a tad distracting when reversing

    Cheers,

HI, There was a thread on this a while ago.

There will be a control box in the Jack compartment with a volume switch on it, this may suffice.
Otherwise you need to put a switch or plug in to disconnect the power from said control module.

Thanks mate. I did try a search but I didn't come up with anything. I will have a look in the jack compartment.

On mine, the control box is just to the rear of the jack opening. It was difficult to identify the power supply, but the thin twin cable to the small speaker was easily identified. The speaker was mounted above the same opening. I put a switch on the speaker cable. The unit works the same as always, but I can now switch off the speaker whenever I have a trailer attached.

See my post of 8/7/2007 (page 2 of thread)on this

            http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=626&start=15

It is about a switch that can be switched off when not required.

Thanks guys. It's funny because I can always find what I want on Google but when it comes to forums, I either get 10,000 irrelevant threads or nothing!

I had a look at mine and there isn't a volume switch. The power to the unit has a plug - so I will probably just unplug it when I tow.

I just can't for the life of me find the speaker and with the camper turning up soon this is going to drive me mad. How big is the speaker? and how small does your hand have to be to find it? :|

Alternatively how easy is it to pull off all the panels (in a way that they could be replaced again) to find it.

Is the beep eminating from that area? It may be located elsewhere! Its not huge though.

                      Hi All,

Narva have just release a range of 7 & 14 Pin Flat Plugs that disables the reverse Sensors when you lift the cover of the Trailer Plug.

Narva P/N is 82043BL for7 Pin Normally Closed Circuit & 82073BL for 14 Pin Normally Closed Circuit

82044BL for 7 Pin normally Open Circuit & 82074BL is for 14 Pin Normally Open Circuit.

More Info can be found at http://www.narva.com.au and look for Trailer Connectors.

I am just about to fit them as I have a E-Trip Reverse Sensor which is a Normally Open Circuit.

You will need to check with your Dealership or company that fitted them, as you need to ensure you get the right one.

                        Re: Temporarily Disabling Reversing Sensors

You can temporarily disable the reverse sensors, on the black siren there is a slide switch i.e Off, Lo and HI.

I use this switch to turn it off in the bush, can be annoying when it makes the noise around shrubs

                          Re: Temporarily Disabling Reversing Sensors

The Toyota fitted reverse sensor on mine has a small lcd display that is mounted next to the rear vision mirror.

This displays a car reversing and indicates which of the 4 sensors is the closest to the hazard.

On the rear of the display unit is a small switch for turning off the reverse sensors.

You wouldn't know the switch is there really and its surprising they didn't put it on the side or front of the display unit so it can be easily used.

                          Its in an awkward spot.

                            Hi Adrian,

By your description, you have the same as mine, which is a E-Trip by Haodi Australia http://www.haodigood.com/HaoDi.htm

The switch only stops the beeping from inside the cabin.
It doesn't stop the unit from working with a Trailer, which is what this thread started off as.

The only way to stop the reversing sensors from working with a trailer is by using the Narva Plugs as per my previous post.

                              Re: Temporarily Disabling Reversing Sensors

I recently purchased a genuine Toyota 4 sensor reversing kit off ebay. Unfortuneately it came with the fitting template for a Kluger. Does anyone have the fitting instructions/templete for the Prado by any chance?

                              Thanks
