  • The 90L Light

Yes, I have done a search on this.

I do a lot of night driving due to shift work and that light is very bright at night. It doesn't dim with everything else when the dash lights come on.

I've emailed Toyota and asked is there any easy way to disconnect it? Naturally, they said it will void the warranty and that's all they'll tell me.

I know when I'm on the last tank because the gauge drops below half, plus the amount of k's driven. Anyone know how to turn it off without pulling the dash out?

Your right this is a new topic.... 8)

1st up: Welcome to the forum, thats a nice looking profile avatar ! and thanks for actually searching first

I would suggest there is no way as it would be controlled by the ECM and fuel tank senders. So short of ripping the dash out you have only one other option.

Try blu tacking or a velcro spot or even simple electrical tape over the top of it.
If using velcro or blu tack use a bit of tint or coloured cellophane to "Dim" the light down as required.

If the light behind the dash is a small 4.5mm type glass lens, then you can go to Jaycar electronics and find different colour lens covers that snugly fit over the light itself. Something like this.

Depending on the colour you want, you can probably put an orange cover over it and that should reduce the glare but keep the colour the same.
I did this with an older car and it worked fine. You are right in saying it will void warranty, you will have to have a think of your options to see if it worth it or not.

If you are in an auto, the the D etc down the centre is the bright green as well. I find it is the same as the 90L and often catch the reflection in the side window and second guess as a green traffic light when watching out for P platers and Hyundai's.

or is that P platers in Hyundai's though usually you can hear them coming.

And whilst we're listing the overly bright lights in the instrument panel, the light that indicates your headlights are on is exactly the same.

Come on Toyota! You can do better than that. Dimmers that affect the entire instrument panel... what a novel idea

Thanks everyone. I was suspecting there was no easy way. I emailed Toyota over two years ago when I had a Petrol 120 (Which went to god when a flying car landed on it!) I suggested they alter it for future models, but it must have fallen on deaf ears.

I thought about the blue tac idea, but I'm very anal with my Prado. I even put tyre shine on the insides of the tyres. I know, very sad. Off road you say? Yea right.

I know what you mean about the indicator for the fog lights, but not as bad. Is the dash that hard to pull out?

Oh and thankyou about the Avtar.

You're telling me if your suspension fails (after you've disconnected a dash light) Toyota will say your warranty is void? I don't think so....

That light would have a wire going to it that would not be contained wholly behind the dash, Some one have a workshop manual? the loom would be able to be hacked and a resistor put in to dim it.
I have no idea if it is an LED light or not but either way, with the right resistor, it would work.
With a bit of wire jerking you could even have a split circuit. one as standard, and one with the resistor. Or possibly with an adjustable dimmer.
I would not think the dash would need to be pulled. But could be wrong.

So calling for a workshop manual....
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.
