  • IPF DRIVING LIGHT WATTAGE

Evening all just had a quick question ,dose anybody know why the IPF 900 XS SERIES only have 65w per light and the 900 series have 130w per light considering the XS SERIES are more expensive you would think they would have at least the watts as the 900s if not more .
    Thanks for your replys

different lamps in the two units. The lamps probably have different fittings so you can swap one to the other would be my guess also.

Higher power consumption on the bigger rated lamp will draw 5 1/2 amps more current and probably add to the load of the electrical system, which could be utilised for better things like fridges.
Dont know the lumens or lux that the lamps put out but cant see them being too far different. not sure.
Finally the inverter type spotties only draw 35 watts and are much brighter than the other two.

I picked up my IPF 900XS today and the ARB dealer said that the 65W globes produced a more powerful brighter light compared to other IPF lights that used 130W globes for less light.

So I presume a different technology exists between the two sets of globes.

65Watt globe use Halogen Infra Red (HIR) technology by applying a special reflective coating to the inner surface of the HIR globe, visible light can pass through while infra red light reflects back on to the filament. This recycling effect superheats the filament, and produces a light so intense it is only surpassed by expensive HID systems.

        & 130Watt globes don't

        Info from ARB web site.

I had the 65W jobbies in my Prado when I got her....still going strong. My previous vehicle would chew thru 130W globes at an astounding rate

From memory each globe is about $50 or more but as for reliablity they are the bees knees.

            Cheers
