  • Cruise dash light flashing

Yes i have searched on this, today i was unable to engage the cruise control it would light up the dash light flash and then disappear. On the way home it engaged and set but when indicating left it would cancel the cruise. Any one else had this. I am convinced there is a gremlin somewhere in the electrics we keep getting silly things like this. last one was the electric windows different window each time.

    Cheers

    Steve,

There is a major electrical connector siting in the dash and can be seen and got at if you take the silver plastic dash covering off on the left hand side of the centre console. It sits just behind the seatbelt warning light for the front passenger seat. It might pay to check that this connector is not loose, I think I would reseat it just to be sure. It is held tight in place by a bolt that runs through the middle of it.

    Cheers

I had a similar problem about a year ago - cruise control dropped out when using the left indicator. It drove me and the dealer nuts. Every time it happened the dealer could see the fault codes on their computer.

I eventually realised that it only occurred when I was towing a trailer. A quick visit to the local sparky located a fault in the trailer coupling. Problem solved - I hadn't the heart to tell the dealer.

      Good luck!

It would be the best to let the dealer know, then they can maybe use this in the future to resolve others problems!

Hey TP, if my memory serves me didn't you have a problem with one of your indicators after installing your head unit? I think you said you resolved that problem by reseating the big connector I mentioned in the above post.

          Cheers

                Possibly a glitch.

Try a reboot, as in, disconnect the battery for a bit.
Reconnect and reset the windows clock etc.

Cant hurt and could work. It works for most electronic things these days.

On another car I once had a similar problem and it turned out to be a faulty brake light switch. Not sure of the electroncis but have you checked your brake lights are all ok, fuses ok and that the brake lights operate properly with foot brake etc. Easy to check and worth a look.

Check brake light globes are ok, and any addition wiring you have had done around the the tail lights. Maybe something jammed in that rear pocket?

But as already mentioned the usual culprit is the trailer wiring. Do you have the extra relay fitted in the rear for the trailer? You can hear it clicking when you indicate.

The flashing light means the cruise computer knows about it so they should be able to extract a code from it.

                    :?

thanks for all the help guys, ive been cursing all week.

I forgot, i was towing a trailer at the time. The trailer has never been a problem in 8 years and being towed behind numerous cars.

Which leads me to the trailer wiring circuit in the prado. I do hear a clicking from the rear of the car when indicating (if the mrs shuts up).

I will let the dealer know next service.

                      Cheers

                      Steve

Thanks again i will finally get a good night sleep now. hehe

My Kids mentioned yesterday whilst towing my trailer that they could hear a clicking sound, when I turned on the blinking thing to go around a corner (kid talk or the indicators lol), they were sitting in the 3rd row seat.

I suspect there is a relay in the rear of the prado for the trailer lights that would also explain the extra fuse that needs to be installed for the trailer lights to work.

There are relays in the back for the trailer.

                          Thats what you can hear.
