  • 4X4 DASHBOARD LIGHT

I have just read Steve and Sandra's post regarding the problem they have with the cruise control. I have problems with the 4x4 "idiot" light in the instrument panel (the green one that comes on when you engage 4wd.) The problem is that it simply does not come on! Initially it would come on after a while but now does not come on at all. My initial thought was perhaps a dodgy earth point somewhere.. toyota's thought was to pull the instrument panel out and then the sender unit on the transmission and give it back wanting it again for three days.
Not being all that auto electric savy I have had the car wired to charge the fridge in the campervan. This goes via an isolator and through the trailer plug. I am not sure if this was done before the light refused to work or not.
Does any guru have a suggestion that I may be able to subtly suggest to toyota...fortunately this is under a warranty claim.

*** I have been trawling this site for months and love it. The rig build ups are sensational.... thanks to them my wish list has now gone to 2 pages !!!

The first place I'd be looking is the connections at the switch on the transfer case.

We have an electrical gremlin too, the headlights turned themselves on the other day. The cruise control plays up with the trailer connected. The windows play up. The bluetooth stereo plays up.
it must be a female car.

            Hi Steve and Sandra,
The headlights will turns themselves On if you had them On when you last turned Off your ignition Sw.

The trailer may have an earth or poor connection in the brake light circuit.

The windows will loose their Auto up/down function if you have disconnected the battery for any reason, check the window Sw. armrest led indicator lights if they are illuminated then there is a fault and they need resetting. The instructions are in the manual and are simple to follow.

Some phones do not work well with the Prado bluetooth I have an LG TU500 works a treat.
            Hope this helps a little

just let toyota do there own thing.

its not helpfull when i customer comes in with his own self diagnosis.

normally its wrong and it hard for anyone to diagnos it properly with out seing it.

just tell them exactly what it did and when it did or does it and if you think it started when the fridge wiring was put in tell them, it may be nothing or it may be the fault.
