They all pretty much work the same.
Essentially all they are is just a big switch that joins the main and aux. batteries in parallel. The automatic switching is achieved by a circuit that monitors the main battery voltage and turns the solenoid on and off.
Of the products available the Redarc is simple and has proven over years to be a very robust and reliable product.
For vehilces with traditional charging systems (14.4V) it's my opinion that Redarc is the best most cost effective dual battery setup.
For modern "smart" charging systems (such as in the D4D) simply paralleling up the main and aux. battery will not chargre the aix. battery 100%. Is this case an indepenadant system such as Rotronics, a boost/charge system such as a RanOX or an inverter/charger system is required to fully charge the Aux. battery.
