ecu reset?

anyone know how long the battery needs to be disconnected before the ecu forgets how to deliver fuel?

since the ARB bar was installed (about 3/4 of a tank (180L's) ago) the fuel consumption of the beast has gone majorly haywire. traditionally i get around 750 k's before the tank changes over, this round i got roughly 550.

at roughly 27% increase i'm figuring it can't all be the extra weight and lights so think the ecu may have reset when the battery was disconnected for a few hours and needs a few tanks to sort itself out again?

am i way off? any other theories anyone can think of?

The ecu for the 1kz hasn't got the ability to "learn" so removing the 12v supply will clear the fault codes at the most.

False alarm on this one. It looks like both the trip A and trip B counters were reset at some stage, though i don't remember doing it and it's unlikely that i "accidentally" did both at the same time.

nonetheless, i the light came on and i filled it up after only doing about 900k's thinking things had really gone to the dogs. but when i put the ODO reading into my tracking spreadsheet i had actually done 1240k's...

so fuel use on that tank was around 12.25l/100 compared to the previous 5 tanks which averaged 11.73l/100

i checked the tires too and they were all down at 30psi except for one which was 20 psi.... oops... so they are all up at 38 again it looks like the figures haven't changed that much at all! happy man again

Disconnecting the battery will usually reset LCD trip meters.

.... so to reset the ecu is disconnecting the battery going to work...?
I usually reset ecu after each service - done on all my previous cars but not sure about the Prado.

the ecu 'learns' all the time and adjusts settings to match ... As i have just changed oil, plugs and now running 95RON, instead of waiting for the ecu to slowly re-learn and adjust settings, which can sometimes take a few 100 km's - i like to reset the ecu back to base settings to start from scratch.
