  • Dual battery question

Having a duel battery fitted tomorrow at ARB and the guy asked what side I wanted the extra socket.
Got me wondering which would be the best side for the fridge to live.
I went for driver side, is this the most popular side to mount the fridge?

depends what side the lid opens and you are comfortable with. Whichever side you decide to use make sure the ventilation into the compressor is not blocked.

I use it on the passenger side and the lid opens left to right.

    Hope this helps.

I put mine on the passenger side too. You don't have to swing the door all the way open to get to the fridge.

Good point, the door wont open fully with the trailer either. Damn looks like I got it wrong again

forgot to mention, I have the socket tucked away on a 2m lead inside the jack compartment. If I want to I can have the fridge outside of car.

            Hey Pomp

I wired my fridge socket up on the driver's side too ... as Andre had already claimed the left hand dicky seat as his.

When we first hooked up the trailer we had a problem with the brake lever catching the door .... so a quick trip to the trailer parts place sourced a replacement tow hitch with a slight step down ..... so now the door can open fully ..... for around $80.

            Cheers

              Cheers Chippy,
I dont have a camper trailer yet, just a 8x4 box trailer for work with an extended bar (400mm) the door actually clears the trailer brake lever but stops on the spare wheel, which I've had fitted in an upright position to allow for an extra toolbox behind. I doubt I would use the fridge while at work anyway as I already have a 12v coolbox which is adequate.

I looked through a couple of threads with the drawer setups and it seems most people have the fridge drivers side so Im sure I'll manage.

Installed mine on the DS side.
If it's raining then I only have to open the door a bit to jump in and grab what we need. Works well for popping gear in as well. Don't have to open the door as far.
Heaps of reasons for either side.

                Good luck deciding

i was thinking about that, so put a battery in drawers towards the centre,
so i don't have to choose.
but it's a good idea for others.
can have fridge on either side and something else on the other.
                    plenty of options that way

Another option, depnding on how many little tackers you have, we only have one at this stage, i fold up the right 2/3 seat behind the driver and strap the fridge in their and access the fridge through the passenger rear door and have the rear of the car to fully load.

I put the fridge on the DS simply for the fact that it is easier to load other stuff on the PS. The fridge is not accessed as much as the drawer is either.

                          Hey Pomp,

I've also just organised a dual battery setup from ARB to be installed next weekend. Did you go for the "smart solenoid"??? For the dual batt system, ARB deep cyle batt, upgraded wiring to the back socket plus spare 2nd socket at the rear, ARB want in the region of a cool $1000.00. To be honest this is more than I was expecting. What were you quoted??

Does anyone know much about these smart solenoids?? Are they any good?

ARB also told me that all their suspension gear prices are going up very soon too..... Grrrrrrrr!

the redarc smart solinoid is around $100.

                            add what you get,
                            $100 for solinoid,
                            $125 for battery tray,
                            $250 for battery,
                            $50 for cable,
                            almost $500 in labour.
looking at this it looks pricey.
and these are prices are retail for items. :?
