  • rear AC gas lines

Anybody know where the rear AC gas lines run in a Grande/VX/ late model GXL ? also where do they start at the front end eg does it go right thru to the engine bay or split off under the dash near the indoor unit. Oh and one more thought, do they use a different compressor to the non rear air GXLs ?

Not certain but I think that they use ducting and fans to help circulate the cold stuff.

the suction and discharge lines run under the vehicle to the unit (evap) in the back behind the right hand side plastic cowling. Only one compressor. Dont know if it is different to a no rear air compressor. but the system will have more gas and the compressor works harder or is running more (it doesnt cycle as much) But gee it works well we could almost use the prado as a fridge.

yep sound like what i want to hear !
I bought a complete rear AC out of a Grande for 10 bucks, im determined to get rear air in this thing 8) being an electronics tech i reakon i can sort out the elec side of things but was interested re the gas lines and compressor, way i see it the system obviously needs more gas than a single system, but the compressor will just have to work harder. im happy to have both systems turn on at the same time, as im not sure if the rear air can be switched to AC position without the front anyway ? im having a chat with an auto AC guy next week so he may be able to shed some light on it.

The front air con needs to be operating before the rear air con will switch on. However you can run the fan. The rear air can also be adjusted + or - i think 5 degrees of the front setting. If you need any further help drop us a line.
          Cheers
