          Re: Spot/Driving light wiring diagram

          Top Work Mick,

I had something similar jotted down on paper, with the -Ve from the spots running back to pin 85 which is my ground instead of the battery... My 12VDC comes from the high beam to my installed switch, and then to pin 86. Probably attempt to get my wiring in order tomorrow as the ARB deluxe bar is being installed Tues.

A little bit of info on the bosch relays taken from somewhere on the WWW:
When there is no difference of potential (voltage) across terminals 85 and 86 (the coil), the relay's movable contact (connected to terminal 30) is held, by spring tension, against the electrical contact which is connected to terminal 87a (the normally closed contact). In other words, when no voltage is applied the the relay coil, terminal 87a is connected to terminal 30. When 12 volts is applied to the relay coil (terminals 85 and 86), the movable contact (connected to terminal 30) is pulled down/in by the electromagnet (coil) so that it physically contacts the electrical contact which is connected to terminal 87. Again, in other words, if battery voltage is applied to the relay coil (terminals 85 and 86) terminal 30 will be connected to terminal 87.

            Re: Spot/Driving light wiring diagram

Doesn't work with a Bosch 150 relay that has the dual 87 outputs - the spots won't turn off when you drop the high beam.

Solution is to not run the wire to the high beam wire on the lamp but to run it to the other side wire (low beam).

            Now my spots work properly!

Check your wiring... you have made an error somewhere or you are looking at the H4 plug the wrong way around. Works fine with a Bosch Part# 0 332 209 150

                Re: Spot/Driving light wiring diagram

Sorry to rain on your parade but I've got one wire from the switch going to the left and one wire from terminal 86 going to the right of the plug (as the headlight plug in your diagram looks), not to the top wire (high beam).

Trust me, now they work properly.

                  Re: Spot/Driving light wiring diagram

A H4 globe is an ISO item... they are the same world wide and have a pin configuration as drawn.

Unless I'm having a complete brain fade then I stand by this drawing 100%. It's as I have on my Prado and I've used it on many other vehicles.

Are you using a switch as drawn or one that uses a supply from the dash for illumination? all I can think is it's providing a 12v supply through the coil of the relay.

                    Re: Spot/Driving light wiring diagram

My setup is the same as Bushbasher. I can confirm that it only works off of the highbeams. It's wired into the H4 Globe Socket using the two vertical pins which, from your diagram Mick indicate Common and Low Beam. I had tried to connect via Common and Highbeam (per wiring diagram) but then the spotties were allowable based soley on low beam.

This has me wondering if there is a difference between the drivers side and passengers side socket? Mine is connected into the passenger side and on the service manual CD these are listed as separate items:
                    • F1 - Front Clearance Light LH[/*:m:1d3uvnd2]
                    • F2 - Front Clearance Light RH[/*:m:1d3uvnd2]

Any thoughts? Could this be the difference?

I have no idea.... I had the above diagram drawn out for me by an auto sparkie years ago. I just tided it for the forum.

                      I'll give him a call.....

OK... after a late night phone call  I have this sorted.

As you guys have picked up there is a mistake :!:

My humble apologies as it was my fault too... I misinterpreted the original sketch and notes when I redrew it . The top pin is the low beam on a H4 globe :!: ops: ops:

I'll fix up the drawing tomorrow and re-post it.

Sorry again guys.. at least we all learnt something about auto electrics.

Ok... the original diagram was incorrect so sorry about that, I drew the pin configaration from the wrong notes given to me. It was in fact for a 60 Series Landcruiser.

I have edited the original post and it is now correct for a Prado (Or any vehicle with H4 globes)

Sorry about the confusion (mainly mine it seems ops: )
