  • New VX D4D - a couple of issues

Well, I picked up my Silver VX the other day.

When I was going over it I noticed:
    - The paint was speckled with what looked like little bits of rust. It was obviously fallout from wherever it had been sitting. It was so dirty I wasn't able to tell the difference between chips and dirt!
    - Watermarks all over the paint
    - There was two scratches on the paint
    - Rear scuff trim was not put back in properly after fitting towbar harness - sloppy work
    - Interior was only semi-clean with smudge marks
    - Smudges on the windows
    - Underbody hadn't been cleaned at all.

Needless to say I wasn't impressed. When we purchased my wifes $21k Honda Jazz it was immaculately spotless, it is reasonable to expect the same when purchasing a $75k 4wd!!! The dealer promised to have it fully detailed inside and out, touch up the scratches and top the tanks up at the first service.

When driving home I noticed that the front seat rattles constantly when no one is sitting in it and the rear seats make a similar rattle over bumps. Has anyone else experienced this? I also noticed the dash resonates at idle intermittedly and at certain RPM (~1400).

When I got home I noticed that the windshield washer fluid reservoir was empty and the radiator fluid had been overfilled and subsequently sprayed the driver side of the engine bay. What the hell did I pay a delivery fee for?

So what was supposed to be an excited time has been severely dampened by the above. Apart from the issues mentioned, the car does drive very nicely and I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality of the stereo. Pics and build up thread coming soon...

thats really disapointing to hear, i would be having a nice chat with the service manager about the sloppy work and the state the vx, when it leaves the showroom for the first time it should be mickey mouse, if you just spent 75k they should be bending over backwards to help you. cheers samo

I'd have it parked at the front of the Dealership ready for them to explain as soon as their doors open on Monday morning. Take photos now.

          Schniff,

My advice......make an appointment with the dealer principal, and lay all the cards on the table.

Word of mouth advertising and referrals are an important part of any business.

I'm sure the boss would like to know.......how we are going......from a customer first hand.

I'm our case, I told the dealership, if the car is not right, you will be dealing with the lady from hell.......the registered owner.

No problems so far, and three follow-up phone calls since purchase to check our satisfaction. We are impressed.

I would also push for some compensation for this inconvenience.....some freebies to make you feel better........win/win situation for both parties.

          Cheers,
          Ken and Kristine

I'd be taking it 4wding and run it through a few bushes. Best thing to get over a nice new car. Then she's be christened and ready for more fun.

              Schniff

I picked ours up the dealer rang me a day early to tell me that it was ready and on display in the showroom. Immaculate, full of fuel, the salesman went through all the controls in the showroom, told me he would follow up which he did one week later. I told him that some of the setup, bluetooth, door locking options etc were a bit of a challenge from the 600 page log book. He asked when I was free so that we can arrange to have somebody run me through all these things.

Thats what a new car experience should be, push the dealer for a satisfactory result.

Re: New VX D4D - a couple of issues

What made things hard was the fact that I had to drive all the way across town to pick up the vehicle. Ordinarily I would have refused delivery, but I need a car now and it was too much of an inconvenience to go back again.

As I stated earlier, the car will be getting a full detail inside and out at the first service and tanks topped up. I'll be getting a loan car to the equivalent or better of the VX and they can have the car for as long as they need to get it right.

Has anyone else experienced the rattly seats??? Its driving me nuts. I don't care what they do, even if they have to replace the damn things they HAVE to get rid of this.

                  Hi Schniff,
I have a GXL, the seat don't rattle, but they definitely vibrate a fair bit when no one is sitting in them. I noted it on my customer satisfaction form from Toyota so maybe they will get the message if enough others do the same.

I have the Diesel VX. I haven't noticed the Rattly seats, but the vibration through the dashboard at 1200 - 1600 revs when underload is sending me batty. The whole thing reverberates. It will be attended to at its 10k service, I hope.

The 120 used to seem as though the passenger seat rattled but it was usually the seat belt buckle rattling against the pillar - probably not the same but worth checking.

Its definitely not the buckle. I can replicate the sound by striking the upper section of the seat. When I hold the seat with my hand while driving, the noise stops.

                          Hi

Did Toyota sort out the seat vibration out? I had mine in for the 1000km service today and thought I would list the seat as a fault (mine also shakes at times) and they have opened a case with the Toyota technical dept as they could replicate the fault- It will take a few days to get a reply. Also do you get a faint sucking/vacuum sound when you press the brake pedal?

I also got them to link my windows to the remote so I can open and close them with the remote which is cool!

                          thanks

I would be interested to know what the linking of the windows to the remote does? I am guessing it opens/closes them remotely but can you give us a bit more detail

Is this something easy for Toyota to do? did it cost? I remember an old VW I had with this facility, you basically did a double click unlock to open the windows triple click unlock to 'vent' the windows was really good on hot days! especially cos it saved you having to get in the car and turn the ignition.

                              Hi

There are various customisations that can be done on the 150 series. Some you can do on board by holding done the menu button(changing light on times and loudness of alarm beeps etc.) but others need to done by toyota(linking moonroof and windows to remote and changing a/c settings etc)-there should be no charge as it is just a matter of changing parameters in the vehicle. This should actually be done on delivery and explained but I dont think saleman are very clued up anyway.

When you link windows to remote, you hold the unlock button down and all windows open until you release button and vice versa when holding down lock button.

                              Hope this helps
