    Hi dallasm,

Plenty of people are running 100Watt driving lights, you shouldn't have any problem,
it is only a additional 15A load on the Alternator. I'm assuming your not running
    any other power hungry addons.

Just make sure you put in a heavy duty wiring loom and control relay to power them and don't
try and run them off the headlight wiring.

    Cheers

      Re: 100 watt HID kit

The 100w HID kits still only use 55W lamp so you are shortening their lifespan significantly. The other issue to watch with 100w ballast is the heat. Unless there is constant airflow over them they will go out on overtemp or start to ignite if the overtemp cutout doesn't work.

Charging system should be able to handle the load, just check what startup current is drawn (wiring issues) before they settle down on constant draw.

HID kits draw a lot less than normal halogen globes. I would suspect that a 100w HID uses only about 5-6.6 amps.

I personally wouldnt bother and stay with the 55 or 35 kits. They offer enough light output and you wont have the problem of frying stuff.

A 100W HID will still draw roughly the same as a 100W halogen, its just the HID is more efficient in converting current to light output. True 55W HID should still draw around 4.5/4.9amps depending on how much loss you are getting through the ballast but you are getting roughly the equivalent light output of a 450-500W Halogen.

100W should draw around 8.5-8.8 amps consistently plus a bit more for startup.

I have just converted my headlights to h4 hi/low 35w hid. The difference is very significant. For the life of me, I cannot see how anyone would really need any more than 55w hid in driving lights. The output from them is amazing. I just came back from a 4 day trip out west, with my friend in front with the 55 watters. I was behind his vehcile all the way back from Broken Hill, and was extremely impressed with the 55w driving lights. Now on my own shopping list.

I totally agree with Mr Piggy. Get 55w hid and save yourself any problems that may arise with the 100w kit.

gday guys im waiting for a 55w hid kit for my ipf900xs's, am just wondering about the heat issues with the ballasts as i was hoping to get the ballast in the ipf's as well, soooo is there significant heat with the ballasts, or it should not be a problem, will post photos and stuff in our build up page, many thanks and cant wait (hopefully this week)

I've had no probs living in Darwin which is hot most of the year with the ballast inside the light housing. The lights are cooled when diving anyhow.. refer to the link of my driving light.

I inspected inside my driving lights and noticed rub marks from the ballast. I have placed 3mm double sided tape around this and other items that are moving around to reduce or stop this. Otherwise it still looks brand new inside after 20000kms in dusty and wet conditions.

I converted my normal lights to 35 w hid's and ipf lights to 55 w last year and have had no problems the only thing is next time I will not use 6000 and drop down one as they are bad in fog but very bright lights
...If its not on all 4's it's not on.....

I think 5000k is the cutoff.
