  • Diesel Tuning

Back when I had a Surf, I took it to Adelaide Diesel Injection (I think that is what they were called but now I believe they are MQD) to get tuned on their Dyno. It made a lot of difference to both power and ecconomy at the time. This may have been because someone had played with the pump who didn't know what they were doing before I owned it, but it did make a big difference. What are peoples thoughts on getting the prado tuned? I have put on a bigger exhaust which may have changed things?

    Re: Diesel Tuning

I think it's MTQ at Regency Park your thinking of.

Your Surf still had a fuel screw (despite being an electronic pump) so could be tuned some what (they could do fuel and base timing)

The Prado does not have a fuel screw, it's fuelling is controlled by the ECU. Not much they can do tuning wise except check base timing. A dyno run is still a worth while investment. They can give you an idea of overall idea of the condition of your engine/pump/injectors and they aren't that expensive these days.

MTQ use/sell the Rapid piggy back chip which they can tune on the dyno to suit your other modifications.

Thanks Mick, I reckon I will give them a ring and find out a bit more about the rapid chip.

It's also included in 4wd Action mags latest edition, test along side a few other "Chips"

Yeah I had a good look through that as I was looking at the More Power chip earlier, it showed little change from original though. How would you rate the Rapid chip compared to the DP chip, or do they all do much the same thing. I understand there is another post on chips so will from now on take this over there.

I run a Dtronic myself and have fitted a few DP's so take this with a grain of salt; I'd be looking at the Rapid if I was buying right now. I like that it can be easily tuned live on the Dyno to suit all your other modifications. It might only make a naf of difference over the set programs of the DP but I like to dot my I's and cross my T's.

It also means a good tuner should be able to tune for outright power or err on the side of economy giving you good flexibilty.

Thanks again for your thoughts Mick. I will just let it roll around in the head for a while I think, but I am sure it is something I will end up doing.
