  • Prado Lift

Hey guys, I'm new on the boards, I own a 2002 VZJ95 Prado.
I bought it used from an uncle a while ago and I know it has an OME suspension, not sure how much lift. It also has red springs, not sure what they are.
I'm guessing its some heavy duty springs because the truck's bulletproofed so its carrying a a little over 220kg of additional weight. Now my questions:
Anybody know what the red springs might be? My first guess was Rancho but I'm not sure.
Also, anybody know the standard height of a 95 prado? So I can compare and see how much lift it's got?

I'm waiting until the current 31 AT's wear out to see if I can get some 32's, not sure between 265/75 or 285/70. Anybody know how the Prado handles with 285/70R16 tires with a standard engine? I'm told the heavier 285 might feel slower. I might maybe even go 33's if she can handle it!

I have 265 75 16 Cooper STT's and I have to say it handles it fine but you can tell the differnce when heavily loaded or towing, i personally wouldnt go any bigger, it also knocked a few MPG out of it aswell

Hmm, there's a difference compared to what tire size? you had a 31 previous tire size??
MPG is not really an issue as gas here in Venezuela is extremely cheap, but a larger tire should have (a little) more displacement (not sure if its the right word, im using the direct translation) so highway mileage should have a small increase.. although its not the case while towing.

      Thanks for your reply man!

        Re: Prado Lift

        Hi Lugueto,

The larger tyres will have a greater diameter, yes that means less revolutions to the kilometer but it also changes the effective gearing.
You will feel a difference in performance and economy, more so when loaded or towing.

Measure from the bottom of your wheel rim to the wheel arch/guard and then you can work out if you are lifted already or just running heavier standard height springs.

My 90 series measures from memory 780 mm front with Lovell H/D Raised Springs and 800 mm rear with Kings H/D Raised Springs.

Dual batteries, Alloy Bull Bar, Drawer system in the rear so not far off your extra 220 kg

          Red springs is usually pedders.

265/75 is usually the tyre of choice, need a few more modifications (body lift) to get the 33's on.

Thanks man, as soon as the car leaves the shop i'll be measuring. I think the tires will be 265/75 anyway..
