  • Any problems from your CB/mob ph & electric brake controller

Just reading the install instructions for a Tekonsha electric brake control unit and it says not to mount it within 30cm of RF devices including "cell phones and 2 way radios" which I interpret to mean mobile phones and CBs.

As a lot of photos on here show them installed very close together has anyone had any issues from doing this? I was thinking I would install the brake unit in ashtray (and have it removable when not in use) and the UHF below that or maybe on the side of centre console next to the left leg. Pity there is no removable section above the ashtray (I have just bought my 2005 Grande)

    Thanks Mick

Got mine installed the same way by electrician - without any issues.

I have Tekonsha Prodigy P3 mounted in ashtray slot and UHF on the left side of centre console, antenna on bullbar.
Never had any issues, however I haven't used the UHF much with a caravan connected.

High powered portable radios used inside the car could be a problem, because you've got the antenna inside radiating high RF energy.

Cellphones are such low power they generally don't cause a problem.

If you want to be sure, connect your trailer or van up, go for a drive to a safe place, brake and transmit on your UHF at the same time.
      Cheers, Wayne
