  • Front power socket not working

    Hi,
Can anybody give me some advice on how to remove /repair the 12v/120W power outlet in front of the 4wd lever on a 120 Prado?
I have checked the fuse and is OK.
I was unable to remove the socket easily amd didn't want to damage the plastics by levering too hard with a screwdriver if that is not how they come out!!
It is the lower socket mounted horizontally.
    Many thanks,
    acfrench

    acfrench,

Do you have 2 power sockets in the front like my 95 series? If so double check your fuses. I think one fuse (power outlet?) runs one front socket and one rear socket. The second fuse (cig lighter?) runs the other front socket. Hope this helps.

      Thanks Chriso,
yes, I have checked the fuses, all OK.
I just can't get the socket out without resorting to lots of force.

      Thanks

Don't resort to excesive force just yet - before the panel that the socket is mounted on can be removed - you must remove the entire (1 piece) panel that surrounds the gear sticks and handbrake - use the search feature to find the info as many people have removed the console already... Everything is push/clip fit, nice and easy and gentle!

Secondly, and don't quote me on this - but i think one of the fuses for the accessory sockets is in the drivers footwell and another one is possibly in the engine bay fuse box? Could someone please check and confirm this? I would check myself - but wont see my beloved until friday! So if you haven't already, might be worth a look in there before pulling the console apart...

Re: Front power socket not working

Check if you have power to the rear socket first. If yes then you have a problem just with the front socket but I have to say that is pretty unlikely. No power to the rear means a blown fuse. I had a similar issue recently (while camping) and it was the 15A mini blade fuse near the drivers footwell that was blown. The tool to remove the fuses lives in the main fuse box or you can gently use some needle nose pliers. Someone had used a phone charger and this thing destroyed itself when it was removed thus shorting the contacts.

If it is just the socket then remove the console as per other threads.

Had the same issue a few years ago and according to my foggy/unreliable memory ther is another fuse in the back of the socket that not many people know about.Whether you still need to pull the dash apart or not ,sorry i can't remember. Hope I'm some help!!
