  • Wireless reversing camera

    Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone could share their experiences with wireless reversing cameras.

I've been looking at the various options for a reversing camera setup and prices seem to vary drastically. As i dont have a monitor in the GX, my options so far have been to have a new head unit & camera all hardwired in or have a seperate monitor and hardwired rear camera installed.

But I've recently seen that there's a wireless camera & monitor units that are available on ebay at pretty decent prices:
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/7-GPS-10GB-HD-LC ... 9565wt_906

The install on these units looks like they are a lot easier than a conventional hard wired setup, which appeals to a less less experienced DIY-er like myself.

In the past I've heard that there were issues with signal transfer and wondering if the newer units are any better.

    Cheers,
    Pete

      Re: Wireless reversing camera

      Hi all,

I haven't had any experience with wireless reversing cameras but have had
bad experiences with wireless security cameras etc.

I have found the cheaper units have poor range, and also suffer stabilty problems
with RF drift requiring constant retuning.

Unless you can get an actual demonstration of the unit operating and some positive feedback
from actual users of the specific system I would steer clear of them and go for a hard wired system.

If you want to add a sat nav I would be going for a head unit that does all. I would also be wary of
the stand alone sat units that run hema & ozi explorer as Derek of ABR recently wrote in a thread
that after using one he would not recommend one but can't remember the actual brand. Try searching
      in the 150 area.

I have a polaris unit myself and very happy with, It appears the digi options units are also good as is
the VMS though a friend with a VMS says if he was purchasing now he would probably go for a digi options.

Also preferable to go for one with at least two camera inputs or a switch that allows two cameras,
one to cater for a camera on the car and one on a van if you have one.

Sorry have got a little of subject but hope the info helps with your decision.

      Cheers

        Re: Wireless reversing camera

I tried a wireless reversing camera I found that the Prado electronics interfered with it so much it was unuseable.
So now i have a wired one.

          Re: Wireless reversing camera

I've tried two wireless units from Ebay, one stand alone and one combined gps/rear camera. Both were hopeless. I wouldn't touch wireless again (not at the cheap end of the market anyway) Ranged from no picture at their worst to grainy pic with heaps of static at their best.

I recently put a hardwired 3.5" screen and camera in the inlaws car. From Ebay, Australian seller, sub $100 inc delivery, bloody brilliant for the money.

              Re: Wireless reversing camera

Thanks for the input guys. After a bit more research, hard wired is definitely the way to go.

Replacing the head unit is a better option for me anyway, as i'd rather keep the dashboard uncluttered.
