  • Xneon HID conversion

    Hi Guys

I've tried to checkout the RTA/MVR etc etc websites about headlight conversions. I'm thinking of getting something like these :

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xenon-HID...#ht_6133wt_905

Is it legal to change to the HID setup if they were never sold as a factory option ? I'm sick and tired of blowing headlight globes. I tend to always leave the lights on and you can be guaranteed that I'll blow a globe every 3 months ! Will the additional lumens discolor the glass ? I've done the research and cant find an answer so over to the forum :-)

    Cheers Pete in Alice

My understanding is it is legal only if you have self leveling suspension. Ie on Grande air bag suspension.

When buying avoid chinese circuits or you are buying the same problem of blowing things.

    Try these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Always go for usa or german.

Not only do you need self leveling lights you also need to install headlight washers to make them legal. This is to stop dazzling oncoming traffic with random light dispersal from dirty headlight glass (actually plastic). It is in the ADRs, easy to check out.

Geez sandman, you certainly fit the profile of a lurker! Been around since Feb 2009 but only posted 11 times?

Yep, aftermarket HID in headlights is illegal here in WA too. I'm thinking about it for my spotlights though...

HID are not designed to be fitted into a normal headlight i.e. on a 120 series because the light spread is too great. They need to be fitted into focus beam headlight (the small round head lights). They can be either self levelling or manual. But to be manual the cut-off line has to be lower i.e. you need to point them down more. Specs are in the ADR's. And as stated they require washers. But confirm with your local road transport authority
They might have good light output but you need to think of other road users. You wash out their heads lights and they cannot see where they are going and dazzle oncoming drivers. It gives me the sh#ts

I had stuff all to add until I opened the wallet and then thought "what accessories do i want to get"... out flood the posts :-)

I have 55w bi xenon in my 120 series.... refuse to drive the wifes car at night now! have had them in for 2 years and been through numerous RBT's with them on and have never been questioned about them... My prado is lifted a fair bit and i have lowered the headlights to suit. I have never been flashed by other motorists for having bright lights.
I do know that they are illegal and know that if i get defected it is my own fault, but personally believe that they are a must for safety reasons..... good lights = safe driving

                          Hey Crowley,

I know this is an old thread, but I've been reading up on HID's on PP and yours was very encouraging. Just wondering what kit you bought and where you got it from? Ive been experimenting with cheap Ebay kits with variable degrees of success, but yours sound like a great buy.
                          Cheers, Todd

i bought a cheap kit off ebay, it was a straight plug in, it was all sealed connections, but the main relay control box wasnt, i went through a shallow river with my prado as no snorkle, and water got in it, completely fryed the relay control box and my headlights were stuxk on and when i disconnected them the spotties were constant on unless isolated them, i had to rip the hid system out, never again will i buy oneClick image for larger version
