White smoke is a fuel issue.

When were the injectors serviced. They may be dribbling like grandpa at night.

    Its not valve stems

Best to just have them replaced. If you are not bound to using the Toyota guys, then get a set of reconditioned injectors and get a diesel mechanic to fit them up. Although just about all mechanics will do them these days. If the smoke then goes away, ring Toyota back and ask them why - after having the injectors replaced - the issue is solved and it had nothing to do with valve stem seals. Then ask which cereal box their mechanic got his certificate out of....

Just to expand a bit, worn valve stem seals normally show up as BLUE smoke at start up after being parked overnight. The oil weeps past the seal, onto the valve stem. When the engine starts it burns off causing the smoke.

However, valve stem seals usually only leak if the valves are worn anyway and flogging around. Otherwise they just go straight in and out of the seal lubricated by a smear of oil and dont stretch the seal.

White smoke is often a sign that the fuel is not burning correctly (not to be confused with black smoke due to overfuelling)

There have been issues with the injectors on the D4D engine. Has it been rattling of a morning. If you do a search (use google and pradopoint tag) for injectors rattling you should get heaps of info.

White smoke is definately fuel. I would have thought that if a dealer did the investigation they would have used the scan tool and determined that the injectors are within spec? Stem seals will still be fine after 120,000km. It is possible that the glow plugs are an issue but first of all call the dealer and ask if they tested the injectors and whether they were within spec. Assume it doesn't blow any smoke when the engine is warm?

I have taken it to the second dealer in town they have said it is a injector problem and it is not a valve stem seals and they put the scan tool on and said its all in spec so i just have to wait and see the out come of the faulty injector

                          85000km's and out of warranty.

How much are those injectors Roo???

I'd be trying a dose of injector cleaner first. It would be a lot cheaper if it works. I had a bit of a rattle. A bottle of Neulon injector cleaner in tank fixed the problem. It sounded crap while in the tank, (i think because it lowers the ?Cetane rating), but since then it has been like a kitten.

Hi Fellas. My young fella advised me the other day that their toyota dealership is sending the D4D injecters away for ultrasonic cleaning with some success. Heaps cheaper and could be worth a shot. Cheers.
