View Full Version : Ignition Key getting stuck

I've recently started to face this problem. The key gets stuck in the ignition and won't push/turn to lock

I play around a bit with the shifter lever, taking it all the way from one end to the other, release the hand brake and then try again in the Park position. At times it moves with one such play, sometimes it requires a couple or more of them.

Need help on how to address this issue. I know its the shifter level lock mechanism that needs to be looked into, just wanted to check here if someone has successfully dealt with it.
What am I suppossed to be looking at in there. Pictures / illustrations would help!

I've read about a similar problem on 120series thread, wonder if the two are alike.

Does it stick with both OEM keys? One of my keys is wearing, and gets stuck in the glove box lock. The other less worn key is OK. Just a thought..

If its sticking then better to bit the bullet and replace before you get stuck. My 95 series barrel locked up out in the middle of nowhere and it took the racv 3 hrs to get there and then another 2 to get me going again. Very frustrating problem. ~$750 at Toyota dealer and I had a new barell, key and all programmed. Not cheap!
