  • Driving Lights Switch - ARB syle switch wiring

I’ve installed one of those Rocker ARB type switches to switch the driving lights, next to my ARB compressor. The switch is working so no worries there but I want the light bulb to work as it does on the ARB switch.

Question1 : I’ll be sourcing the power for the light bulb from the ARB switch (as it switches itself on together with the main lights). Do I solder another wire to the back of the ARB switch or splice the cables in half? What’s the “proper” way of going about this.

Question2: The second light bulb comes on when the switch is switched on, how do I get this working? Double up on the original “power” wires to the driving lights relay?

This is the pinout for the Contura V switches I brought in from the US. I believe the pinouts are similar if not the same.

OK. Assuming that the wires going into the ARB comp switch are blade crimp terminals....

For question 1: I would remove the connection off pin 8 from the ARB comp switch and splice it into 2. i.e. make an adaptor cable with 1 male spade crimp on one end and 2 female spade crimp on the other end. The male spade crimp connects to the existing wire you just removed from the ARB comp switch. The 2 female spade crimps conects to pin 8 of each switch.

For question 2: The wire from your high beam should go into pin 2. The wire to your relay should come from pin 3. Once the switch is on, the 2nd lamp is energised and lights up.

I like the 1 male & 2 female idea (talking connectors here). Off to SCA or Repco to get some connectors and crimpers!

In terms of Question2: Instead of sourcing the power from the high beam, I'll grab it from the switch itself (wire running to the relay Pin3 here). This will switch the bigger bulb on everytime the switch is turned on, instead of when the driving lights "come on". Thoughts?

I actually tried 1 male and 2 female for the first time on the weekend and it worked out really well :P

I may not have read your post right but the 2nd lamp comes on when the switch is on and that is how the driving lights come on.
If the switch is off, 2nd lamp is off, driving lights are off.

If you can wait, you can get the crimping tool and lugs from ebay. I found I use the insulated male and female spade connections and yellow and blue joiners the most.
