  • Oil-catch tank for 1KZ-TE

    Hello all,

I have purchased an oil-catch tank and a hose for it. Just out of curiousity - does any body have dims or picture of the mountig braket for it.
Or have installed an oil-catch tank.

Proud Prado owner since 2007 - mods - 6 speaker system, 2x10" subs, 1,5" dobinson suspension, fleet-guard separator filter, HKS mufler, Pioneer 2-din system, toyota body-kit - rear spoiler.

Well - I have asked - nobody replied - so I did it my self - easy to installed - tho I had to remove - filter pipe - in order to plug in the hose.
If any body interested - I can get a picture of it.

Well it suppose to catch oil-fuel fumes from exhaust. I haven't notice any difference from driving - it just another mod installed under the hood.

Part of the emission control system fitted to all modern vehicles is to vent the crank case back into the intake system (to re-introduce blow-by gasses back into the combustion chamber)
These gases carry with them a certain amount of oil vapour, depending on the age and condition of your engine this can range from a little for new engines to a lot for engines long in the tooth.

Oil catch cans (sometimes called oil/air separators) remove the oil from the gas/oil mix. The oil drains back to the sump and the gas carries on to the intake(legal set up) or is captured in the can for draining at service and the gas sent to atmosphere (un-roadworthy set up).

Fitted alone (without EGR mods) the benefits on a diesel are debateable. Some would argue that intercooler efficiency is reduced by the oil coating the inside. They are normally fitted hand in hand with disabling the EGR valve (as the oil and soot from the EGR choke the intake over time).

Catch cans are usually fitted to performance petrol vehicles, especially those with forced induction (turbo/supercharged) as the oil can bring on detonation/pre-ignition and potentially destroy a highly tuned engine. Diesels run on oil so this obviously isn't an issue with them!

Hi Fellas. In extreme conditions where the oil rings are totally buggered and the engine is really fumie, a diesel engine will occasionally suffer from "runaway" where it will start to run on the oil vapour getting past the rings and keep on increasing rev's- in which case you will need to stall it (poses the question "WOT ABOUT AN AUTO? don't it!) . I suppose these oil catch cans may be able to prevent this from occurring.

Can you let me know where you plugged the tubes into?

              Thanks

It goes inline into your original crank case ventilation system. This runs from the rocker cover under the intercooler to the Turbo inlet.

To be legal your catch can cannot vent to atmosphere. The fumes must be returned to the intake system. The extracted oil can either be drained from the can each service or if you want a maintanece free set up; teed into the dip stick to drain back to the sump.

Is this the metal pipe that comes out of the crankcase then joins to a rubber pipe that goes into the air intake?

                    That's the one.

Leave it there for a couple of months and see what it catches. You might change your mind after that.

                          Hi Guys,

Does this oil catch can help the 2.7 petrol engine?
