  • YOKO GO12 275/65/R17

Just ordered my new set of boots for the prado. I was generally disappointed with the lack of technical information available to assist me with my decision but thankful for the reviews on this site. I have settled with the YOKO GO12 275/65/17. The tyre is legal with 14mm increase in OD and legal increase in width. It has a higher speed rating (H) and load rating (115) than any 265/65/17 tyre that I could find. Is more readily available than the Pirelli and has at least 4mm more tread depth than the silent armour or D694. I have used several other 4wd tyres over the years including Kelly, hankook, Coopers (ST), BFG (AT), Dunlops (various) and wouldn’t really go back to any of them except the BFG. The only reason I didn’t this time is that my brother and I have been using BFG AT for about 15 years and since the BFG AT KO on my last car I don’t think there has been a new model of the AT released. I thought that with recent advances in CAD and silicon rubber compounds that a new model might have been justified. Many would say it doesn’t need to be fixed but my curiosity got the better of me and I am prepared to put my money where my head is and try something different.

If anyone has any experience with this tyre then I’d love to hear it before Friday when I part with the cash.

Thanks for all of the helpful reviews
    Cheers
    Ed

I'm looking at new rubber soon myself and these have come up in my searches.

Be interested to hear your thoughts and findings once you've got them fitted.

Can I ask what you've been quoted for them?

I'm sure I'm not getting the best price in town and if I have time will have a bit more of a look around but at this stage have settled for $319 per tyre fitted and balanced. I have also been conned into a wheel alignment and they take the car back after 5k have a look at the wear on the tyres and adjust wheel alignment again as necessary for free as evidenced by wear.

The price is crap compared to some guys on the site finding tyres for $250 each. As I said anyone has any better ideas or prices I'm all ears until Friday and then I'd rather not know. I will post some pics of the poor old girl (and I don't mean the wife) once she's got the new shoes. After fitting she;s off to Melbourne to tow a van back to Qld and then straight into a fishing trip to Fraser Island for 2 weeks towing my boat up to Orchid and launching through the surf. Always a hard trip on the vehicle.

On my last vehicle I had G011(old model) fitted to a Hilux. Loved them! Once the G011 wore out I fitted the Geolander MT and loved them as well!

The Yoko will be on my short list for when I fit new boots to the Prado for sure!

We have just done a 7000 klm trip on Yoko 265 65 17 ATs most of it on gravel, 5500 towing a 1800 kg caravan, several 4WD treks in the Flinders Ranges and some highway speed work without the van and I am mightily pleased with the performance, no noticeable wear,no punctures and no loss of traction that I did not expect, I will recommend Yoko.

Its time to dump the Grancraps and seriously considering the Yokos. Any updates from you guys who have them?

Not really a useful post but why do they spell it Geolandar and not Geolander ?? :?

                      Re: YOKO GO12 275/65/R17

Decided it was time to change and try and beat any price rise due to exchange rates. Going for the YOKO GO's and rang around for few quotes on 5 tyres with a trade in of the original spare (unused). Initially got quotes of around $310-$330 and nobody wanting to trade in the spare.

The quote I have gone with was from Tyre & More at Bowen Hills. His orginal quote price was $284 each but is giving me a $120 trade in on the spare so it comes down to $260 each. That is $50 each less than the next best quote for a total saving of $250!

Booked in to get them fitted on Monday so will provide some feedback after that.

                        Feedback Re: YOKO GO12 275/65/R17

Just picked up the truck after getting the GO's fitted. Have olnly really driven them half a dozen KM back to the office but first impressions have been excellent. Turned the aircon down and radio off so I could pick up any road noise. No ambient noise at all and even listening it was hard to pick up anything. I tried to corner a bit harder and sharper than normal and found the grip to be a fantastic imrovement of the Grandtreks. I suppose a lot of this would be due to having new rubber opposed to 50k old shoes but this is one of the more noticable improvements I've felt with any previous tyre change on all cars. It just feels all together tigher and more controlled.

Considering ther vehicle will naturally spend the majority of its time commuting on bitumen I could be happier after the initial drive. The test of their "real purpose" will come when I get a spare weekend to head up to Mt Mee State Forest and see how it performs.

The only negative so far is that going for a wider profile means the hard wheel cover no longer fits but I'm sure I can live with that

I would also like any "real life experience" comments on these. These are on my shortlist at the moment and with a bit of searching around all the comments elsewhere seem to be positive. I've been quoted $341 as the cheapest so far, what prices are you eastern guys getting.?
