    Whistling noise when driving on freeway

    Hi Everyone,

    I just bought a GXL prado and took a drive down to port stephens on the easter break and noticed a very annoying whistling noise from the front. I think its from the window, however I'm not sure.

    Does anyone know what its from and how to fix it?

    what year/series prado?

      I had the same problem with my old car (not a prado) I found out that the window seal around the drivers window was busted... So air was seeping in through the small gaps, thus making this whistling noise. Could be the same problem for you perhaps? O.o

        Since having installed HD rhino bars, I have a ever so slight whistle coming from the bars up top. Do you have roof bars or racks installed?

          Check roof racks(as advised) bull bars. antennas, fish rod holders and anything that may be able to make a whistling. Sometimes a piece of tape across something stops it!

            to answer all the questions,

            - 2010 GXL prodo with tow bar, nudge bar and roof racks

            I have checked all the accessories and didn't find any loose area or holes.

            Called the dealer and they said it coulf be the rear mirror position. check that and still whitling....

            Will prob go to the dealer to check and repair whatever it is.

              Adjust the noise suppression device (radio up).

                Check that the door rubbers close properly when the door does - happened on my old car
                June 2008 D4D 6sp Manual GXL. Toyota bull bar, Custom Leather, Piranha Duel Battery, Bridgestone D694s, IPF 900XS, ScanguageII, front radiator bash plate and Uniden UHF

                  Do the roof racks have any open channels, were the feet slide along the bar they should have rubber inserts either side to fill the gap, if not that is were your whistle is coming from.

                      No snorkel? That has been known to do it for some.

                              Check the top of the racks as well. I had a very annoying whistle when driving above 80kph - took ages to find it but it turned out to be part of the rubber strip on the top of the roof rack (mine are Rhino areo bars) was missing after I failed to replace it when I removed a rack accessory! The gap created a perfect whistle!! Filled to gap - whistle gone.
