  • Sa gtg 2012 from the outback to the ocean

Hi all, The National Get Together is on in South Oz in 2012, the thread title should give you a clue as to what you can expect in the trip and we will post details as they become available.

Please feel free to post your feedback, questions, comments or abuse in this thread. We will also have an official announcements thread that we aim to keep clean and uncluttered so people can find info easily.

The trip will be a combination of day trips from a base camp, along with a touring section (to get from the outback to the ocean). More details on the different sections of the trip will be made available down the track, however people can expect significant amounts of excellent 4WDriving through varying terrains on most days including the transit legs. People attending should also be prepared for at least one overnight stay in a remote bush camp with no facilities (maybe 1 pit toilet)

Dates........... OK I know you have all been waiting so here they are.
The trip will commence on the evening of Friday 28th of September and will continue for a full week with final farewells on the morning of Saturday 6th October.

Given that some people will be keen to make it home for the Monday to start work we plan to have the official end of trip function on the Thursday evening allowing people to leave a day early if travel plans require it.

The starting point for the trip will be the Bendleby Ranges.

All of the trip should be able to be completed by a standard Prado and should provide great fun for those with well set up rigs and a bit of experience, those lacking experience may find parts challenging but with some guidance people should be able to conquer any of the challenges. Of course anyone can opt out of any tracks if they feel out of their depth.

Those travelling with solo vehicles and off road camper trailers should be able to get the most out of the trip, those planning on bringing large caravans (yes I am thinking of you Quicky) will need to be flexible about how they transit in order to get the most out of the trip. We haven't worked through all the options yet but in the country we need to traverse, all tracks have significant sections of soft sand once you leave the bitumen.
Although we will look for other options, one of our expected overnight camp sites can not be accessed by large caravans. Contact myself or another committee member if you want to discuss the caravan options.

Details on how to register for this event are being worked on at the moment and we aim to announce details on how to register sometime in the new year.

We look forward to seeing you in South Oz.

    Cheers Andrew

Bugger. The dates do not suit us here in Tasmania for the school holidays. It was always going to be the case trying to find dates that suit everyone. Maybe when Tassie goes to four terms the dates might work in then.

Have fun all those that can make it.

VK - our first priority was to try to fit in all school holidays. As you know, TAS is way off the mark. I didn't even know you guys ran on three terms til a few weeks ago!

Take the kids out of school... The trip will be very educational: How to snatch out prados stuck in mud (aka MLC), how to bush weld etc... Heck, the kids could do a school report on it!

You will note I was going to blank out the number plate but Matt already did that

Dear Ian, you are confused, I am the master, not the demonstrator, that's Matt's job. Here is a lesson plan I prepared earlier:

Don't worry guys, we're pretty nice here in SA and will be happy to assist with any interstater's recovery (for a fee to the PP fairy)
                      Cheers

Ros said we will forgo the luxuries of the caravan for this trip and dig out the Oztent. But she will not give up all her luxuries, lets see, stretcher, shower under the bonnet, new Foxwing and see if I can find room for the new 50lt Waeco she bought at a charity auction recently so she can have a fridge and a freezer in the Prado. But I did spot a new camper trailer that I had not seen before,2 actually parked in the same street and not travelly together,in Taree. It was called an Innovan and is made in Qld and looks impresive on the web site

Watch out you crow eaters thats another reserve in the NSW contingency to back up those canetoads that are about to invade your great lands
I will start to plane our trip now we know the dates and may catch up with the SEQ crew on the way over
