  • Last minute questions for the Committee

Thought i would start a thread so we can all look in the one place for FAQ's...

Here's my first ( of possibly many) questions

What sort of temps should we be expecting during the event ie night time minimums , day time max ??

I've heard it can get really hot during the day, and given that the nights are still below zero here, and daytime only 10 or so we might bring the wrong stuff.
    Cheers
    Phil

A quick check of the weather reveals the following. Generally, you can expect mild days and cool/chilly nights. A nice spring day is definitely shorts weather in SA, but if a wind picks up it will be chilly. You can probably expect it to get colder as we move from Bendleby Ranges in the north, to Beachport in the south at the end of the trip. Beachport is usually windier, and up to 5 degrees cooler.

Basically, you'll need everything from shorts and a tee shirt to a nice warm tracksuit. SA weather is variable. A good rain coat would also be wise as showers are possible. The weather site should be more accurate by early/mid next week, but I guess that doesn't help those of you who've already left!

Maximum temperatures in the Riverland (mid point of the trip) are between 21 and 27 for the next week, overnight lows are 5 - 9 degrees for the same period. Hopefully the great weather sticks around for the GTG. Temperatures at Beachport are likely to be much cooler. No talk of any extremely high temperatures at this stage which is a good thing, 40+ whilst unusual; is not unheard of at the start of October around here.

      Cheers Andrew

Selection of stubby holders already permanent fixtures in the rig for the fishing ( read drinking) afternoons we have trying to catch those damn trout! We bought some plastic wine glasses last trip as we were sick of drinking wine out of coffee cups!

At a minimum, what spare parts are a good idea? I'm thinking fuses, tyre repair kit and top and bottom radiator hoses to start with.
Anything else that would be essential???

Add fencing wire and duct tape and you are ready.

We are not a long way away from civilisation so these items together with what you have should be fine if you are SA based. Maybe some silver seal (radiator hole repair) could be a cheap and helpful aquisition. Repco sell it

Try wine from a bottle instead of a flagan. The bottle doubles up as a large glass and the extra cost is well worth it

                mlc - I don't have a drinking problem until I stop drinking.

One of the great things about this trip is that everyone (except stewy) is coming in a Prado, I am sure between us all if anyone has an issue we are odds on to have whats needed to sort it out.

                  Cheers Andrew

The queen slanders may find it very cold here in SA.So plenty of cold gear would be a must,Especially night times. We hope that our welcome will be warm enough to make up for the difference in temperatures.
