  • SA members: trip planning to get to the 2014 GTG

To all the SA guys attending.

As I have to get my leave booked pretty soon (in the next week or so)for this GTG, I'm starting to think how much time off I'll need. I was wondering if anyone is interested in travelling in a group and seeing a bit of the scenery on the way over. I wouldn't know where to start with an itinery so I'll leave that to wiser heads, but I thought if we left sunny SA around 1st April to give ourselves a week to get to the caravan park.

Open to suggestions on timeframe and route, but some dates to start thinking of is a good place to begin.

    Cheers

Due to the fact that the GTG doesn't line up with the SA school holidays and DJ being in senior high school next year, we will leaving on the Saturday before the GTG, the 5th at the earliest. Given we have most of the SA school holidays after the GTG we might do some sight seeing on the way home instead of the way there.

    Cheers Andrew

      Good thinking 99.

Since my daughter is coming with me and it will be her 1st year of high school, the less time off for her the better. Looks like term 2 ends 11/4/14 and term 3 starts 28/4/14 for SA kids.

Someone's getting a little keen! I'm not sure when we'll leave but as Jo is a teacher, I suspect we won't actually leave until Tuesday 8th, which means a relatively long but easy day for us on the road. If jo can wrangle the Monday off, then we'll leave the Monday so the lad can do Sunday soccer.

I'm keen to take our time on the way back if other's are keen to stay on. From what I hear the Otway Ranges are good, and there's plenty of other state forests etc to have fun in. I'm going to the Otways (grampians as well) in 3 weeks, so I can report back about the area.

Try One tree Hill lookout just outside of Ararat. There are fire trails from the top of the lookout down to the Western Hwy.

          Launders Track in the Grampians.

Of course, but not everyone get's to add a boat-trip to their itinerary! Will be good to catch up again Vaughn. What's your plans? Are you getting there early, or hanging around later?

                    Hi Iantz
Plan so far is to pull out of Adelaide on the Saturday and make some easy miles en route.
We will not be rushing back home after the GTG.
Had mentioned meandering through the "Garden State" on the way home as it's "The Place To Be".
                    Cheers

I'm in no hurry to get back. As the school holidays go until the 28th, there's plenty of time for more exploring.

So what sort of rec leave should we all book then? Are ya'll going to book til the end of the school holidays? I'm happy with that. As long as we're home by sat 26th April I'd be happy That gives us an 8 days post GTG!

I believe that period also takes in Easter and ANZAC Day public holidays.

Yep, Jas (my daughter) and I agree that those dates work for us.

That's okay Troy - you can play the Easter Bunny whilst we're away. I reckon the kids would have a ball actually if we were still on the road for Easter!
