  • 2006 Prado LPG Conversion

I am quite new to prado point. Bought a used prado 2006 model petrol run 90k. I would like to convert it to orbital liquid gas system. Guys please help me with some doubts.

    1. Is it a good move to convert Prado 120 to LPG?
    2. Orbital liquid system with 84 ltr useable tank for $ 3950. Is it a good bargain?
    3. 84ltr useable tank, is the ground clearance ok?
    4. The fuel consumption of orbital liquid gas kit?

I live in Melbourne, I don't intend to do any off road driving. I use it as my family car, drives around 300 kilometer a week.

    Please advise me
    Thanks

Worst thing I ever did was going to LPG. I havnt done it on my 120 it was done on my 95 series. I had the old venturi system as injection wasnt available but with the 120's I believe they have a plastic inlet so injection is the only way as the plastic wont with stand the additional heat from the LPG. I was reasonably lucky in one way was that I got back $1600 (may have been $1900, rebate) cant remember exactly but I think now is only round the $1000 ?? I kept it long enough to recoup the costs then got rid of it. Around town probably will be ok for you but I didnt think about it properly before I did it and lost so much touring range. Id only get 400k on a long run, bout 250/300 round town but was only 55 useable. It will certainly hang down compared to the factory fuel tank but if your not going off road then this wont be an issue. There a few that I have seen running around town and you can certainly see the tank. For myself I will never do it again, in saying that other people on here have it and have had no or very little issues. You would just have to weigh up the cost of the system, how many klms you do, how long your going to keep the vehicle for and how long will it take you to recoup the savings. Including the costs of throwing in a upper lubricant for the top half of the motor. Maybe also do a google and see if any one has posted any major issues since having it done. Make sure you also get a reputable fitter that has done the conversion on previous 120's and your 120's not the guinea pig. Find some one thats been in the business for a long time and been around in the one spot for a long time. When the government raised the rebate all of a sudden there were so called fitters coming out the woodworks who didnt have a clue on how to fit a spare tyre let alone a LPG system to your pride and joy........Good luck with it....Cheers Steve

Thank you Steve, I appreciate your detailed reply. Now there is no government rebate for lpg conversion. Any way I am planning to do bit more research before I take the decision, thanks indeed......soji

the new systems have issues with wax in the injectors
a mate had it fitted to a F250
he went through so many coil packs, spark plugs, injectors & then a computer, no help from the company , basicly they said yo almost need to change the system to the new stuff every 4 to 5 years
if you dont need the 8 seats and want to run LPG buy a factory fitted LPG falcon wagon

I got the Tatarini LPG system done back in 08 with a flash lube kit and i have not had a problem at all.
Runs good get around 350k's from 65ltrs but i tend to drive a bit hard.
