  • Actuator on back of Transfer case

    I managed to crack the plastic actuator box on the back of the transfer case at the weekend.
    I have tried searching for past posts on others who have done the same and I thought there was a guard available.
    Any help/info would be a great help.

        Got a quote today for repairs, $2000 for the actuator and $800 labour.
        I don't know how it all works, but the transfer case has to come out to replace the actuator, why can't just the plastic case just be replaced?
        As the case is only cracked and everything still works could I just glue the case back together and seal it with some sealant?

          If it all still works you could give it a try. Personally I would have it replaced, the last thing I would want if for it to finally give up the ghost in the middle of no where while I'm looking a a river crossing, mud puddle, whatevers and stuck in open high!

            I can get the actuator delivered from USA for half the price Toyota are asking, any one see any problems from buying for the USA?

                Warranty, if it fails or something about it isn't right you're kinda up a certain creek.

                I would be getting which ever workshop that will be fitting it to supply it, that way there is no finger pointing if something isn't right or if it fails. I work as a mechanic for a small company, and I know if a customer supplies a part they are charged for however long it takes, incorrect part is their issue and component failure they get charged labour again. Sometimes it's cheaper in the long run to spend a little more upfront. You may also struggle to find someone who will want to fit such a component that has been supplied by the customer.

                If you are going to fit it yourself I would say go for the part from overseas

                      Not being a mechanic, what does the actuator do?

                      Given it's location, does it do the work to choose between the hi and lo range???
