  • Kakadu rear dvd remote

    Hi all,

I'm in that annoying predicament of not being able to use the rear DVD screen as it's stuck on am radio..
I've read somewhere on here that you clone one with Logitech remote.. Has anyone actually tried this before?
I'm not really looking forward to spending $700+ on a remote...
Any help would be much appreciated

    Cheers,
    Dale

I'm pretty sure you could as it looks like a standard IR remote. I have a Logitech harmony one remote and a Kakadu. I'll try and copy it tomorrow and let you know. If it works - you could certainly send me your logitech remote and I'll copy it for you. I wonder if there is a way users can update the Logitech database themselves so they can put their remote codes online for special things like this expensive Kakadu remote.?

      That would be great Macro!!
An online database sounds beneficial to not only users but Logitech themselves.. I wonder if there is a forum of some sort that has this information?

Ok so it of browsing I found some good news..

        Introductory Information from DonHarmony
        Extensive Harmony Remote Database:
The Harmony Remote control database currently contains over 250,000 devices from over 7,000 manufacturers.
The constantly evolving Remote control database is updated on a daily basis. Therefore, the chances of your device being our database are extremely high.

Adding to the Harmony Remote Database:
If you own a device that is not in our database, you will still be able to control that device with your Harmony Remote as long as you have the original remote for that device. During the setup of your Harmony Remote, the remote control software will guide you through the process of teaching the Harmony Remote 3 commands from the original remote, for your device. From these 3 commands the software will be able to determine what infrared codes and settings your device uses. Within minutes you will be able to control your device. Your device will then be added to the remote control database for others to use.

If you do not own the original remote, all is not lost. The remote control database is primarily customer driven. Since there so many new Harmony customers every hour of every day, the probability of another customer adding that same device and adding the infrared codes to our database with their original remote in the near future is very likely.

Learning Infrared Commands from the Original Remote:
Given the fact that the remote control database is so large, this isn't likely necessary. However, in this case you could teach the Harmony Remote every command from your original remote using the remote control software. Once this has been done, you will have full control of your device with the Harmony Remote.
Just have to hope it can copy the original now

Cool - my harmony is charging as we speak. The battery is stuffed and doesn't last long. I need to pull my finger out and get one of those 20 buck replacements from fleabay.

Success - the Kakadu remote has been successfully copied onto my Harmony one remote. I just tested this in my car this morning and all the functions work. A lot of the functions are very specific to a rear seat drop-down display so I have to add many custom buttons in the setup. I could only use a few of the existing physical button on my remote i.e. play/pause, volume up and down, up down etc etc. I suggest using a Harmony 650 or something with the LCD so you can setup custom buttons. The are buttons needed like - Map, Tilt, open close, Disc change up and down that are quite specific.

When I updated the remote - the software was telling me it was sending the remote information to the database. I called the remote in my setup a "Toyota Prado 150 Kakadu". It doesn't show up in their database just yet though. I believe this can take some time.

If it doesn't show up in - you can still send me a Harmony remote if you want and I'll copy it for you. Even a basic learning remote would work.

No worries. I would quickly throw up a post up on the Logitech support forum and see what it takes to update the database. Perhaps I've done something wrong. I'm using an older Harmony one with the older look software. I can't use the newer look software with this older remote but that should not affect using the database I'm sure.

still not there. haven't found it on the database. Willing to shell out lunch to the value of $50 for someone who can assist me in programming the Kakadu remote into my Logitech Harmony 650.

Hi mate did you hear back from Logitech about your upload database? I have brought a 2012 Kakadu and didn't come with the remote.
                              Thanks
