Hey guys, my poor baby here has bitten the bullet
it's a total write off and i was wondering what i should do with the wreck, whether i should buy it back off the insurance company ($6000) and strip it for parts, or buy it back and try and sell it as a whole
does anyone on here have experience with this and can give me some tips/pointers on what I could do
i think the profit is there for the buying and stripping but it's a lot of effort

    cheers

Wow, thats terrible. Is everyone ok?
Will your insurance over as much as you had hoped?
the problem will be no one knows what parts/accessories will be accident affected due to forces involved.
are you planning to get another Prado?

Hey mate is a shame to see your pride & joy sold for a pittance. My dads 1kz was written off and they reckon it would go at auctions for around 2k.body damage only he drove it on to the truck as contact was to the rear quarter. 2004 diesel with full service history 96k on the clock , rear locker used once, dp chip, beaudesert exhaust, dual batteries, brake controller, at3 with 20k on them, & lots more. All depends on if you have room for storage, if can remove the mods yourself and, or if you buy the same type of vehicle & transfer the extras. Someone however be it wreckers or whoever would be getting a bargain & therefore i do understand how hard it is to wave goodbye to it. Sorry to see it all dinged up & hope it all works out for you & insurance looks after you

you could get that back just from the motor and running gear if it's all still working then all the rest is extra candy. Just have to have patience and not be in a hurry for a return. Really depends how much actual damage there is to mechanical's, panels are either bent or not.

            Hey guys,
it was just me driving and yeah i'm fine, just a small scratch from the seatbelt so pretty lucky
Yeah everything was working absolutely perfectly before the accident, and i think everything mechanical is still A1, it's just panel damage (and bent both chassis rails) that made it a write off
i have a roof rack, rear twin wheel carrier, drawers in the back, 5x good muddies with 80%+ tread left on them, engine, gearbox, and other little goodies
Just don't know which way to go though, whether i sell it all as parts like that or take it to auction as a complete wreck
            im stumped haha

Sad to see, but glad you're ok.

I would buy that bad boy back for sure, but I have the room to keep it in my yard no worries and also the know how and patience to wreck it and get some coin back. Like what's been said, if you are going to replace it with another 150 you would be crazy not to buy it back for $6,000. The engine and box would go for that to someone who needed one, and you'll be amazed the little bits that various people from here will buy off you (trim bits, lights, etc.)

I'm thinking about it but I don't necessarily have the mechanical know how or equipment to remove things like the gearbox or engine, although I do have mates with such experience
might give them a ring and see if they could help me, unless anyone on here is from the southwest? Bunbury and surrounds?

                    Glad you're alright

Not sure if its viable - but...

If you're insured at lower value than a replacement vehicle - maybe you can take some accessories off and re-fit to your replacement (150)?
Rear bar, snorkel, roof rack, rims, tyres.

Maybe approach a few wreckers to see if they would buy it off you - minus the parts you want - they keep the rest. That way they could remove the bits you want to keep as part of the deal.

Good to hear you are ok!

Buy it back, buy a new tyre ($500) and then buy some AutoGlym ($80) and an electronic buffing unit ($20), total outlay of $6,600 and your buffing that unit back on the road.

On a more serious note, Unless you want to salvage something for your own use and then sell the rest to defray costs, don't bother. The reality is you will incur transport costs, have to store, invest a fair bit of time advertising and stripping and then have to dispose the balance. Unless you're bored and have room to store it of course.
