Could be all sorts of things. You will need to get a fault code by plugging in a scanner into the OBDII port since the Check Engine Light has come on. Any mechanic can do this or you can buy a reasonable one for around $100.

When it happened to my 150 it was blamed on the starter motor which was replaced under warranty. Have not had a repeat so have to assume that was indeed the cause.

I had similar happen to me yesterday in my GXL yesterday. I spent a couple of hours searching Google to find the solution.

You probably won't believe me when I tell you what causes it.

Standard Toyota xmas tree lights that come on when a certain bunch of codes are thrown. Code reader to read them, and then solve the issue.
Being a Petrol it was more than likely a out of spec reading from the o2 sensor behind one of the Cats.

As it was a year ago and no further posts, were only guessing..

The cause of my dashboard lighting up with caution lights was ... the fuel cap had not been properly tightened at the fill-up the previous day!

Yep!! As soon as I removed the fuel cap, wiped the rim of the filler pie and the cap o-ring and refitted it being xtra careful to listen for the click, the lights went off.

Go figure.

As soon as I have some spare time, I am going to test this under controlled conditions.

Your right. I don't believe it.

As the cap is ported as the breather for the fuel tank anyway, being slightly loose will not cause any issue.
I would be putting a code reader over it, as whatever really caused your issue will still be in memory.

Was this fault ever resolved decc01? I had the same lights on my Grande a couple of years ago as a result of a broken wire at the rear abs sensor. I was unable to repair the cable so replaced the rear harness (as below)
