      Good to see another shorty.
FYI - even though you hide the rego in the last pic with the lot - it is still visible in the 2nd pic.

        Welcome to the Shorty Family!

        Hi Shamal,
Welcome to the Shorty family and yours looks like a nice neat vehicle!
The Shorty gets picked on for not being a "real" 4WD but I have managed to garner a lot of respect for it's abilities over the 6 years I've owned mine now. The best is when the Troopy behind you says, "I didn't think you'd get up that hill, what gear were you in?" It's so satisfying when you can say, "That was 2nd gear high and I didn't need to lock the centre diff" while he struggles up having to use low range! I've attached a couple of my shorty photos for you.

            Cheers fluffy!

Your's looks like a bit of a cool rig too! I'm not to worried what people say about the shorty, especially as you say, they find out what it can do!

I have ordered the new suspension, including a 2" lift using Bilstein shocks and Ridepro Coils. I also picked up a set of FJ 17" rims with BFG AT KO2's, so I will post a photo when I get it all on.

Hmmm, I didn't know they had a "reputation". Went out a couple of weeks ago with another Prado (LWB) and four 80 series Land cruisers, all modified, one heavily. The shorty got up hills in one go that even the highly modified 80 series took a few goes at. I didn't know we were "looked down on".

Not to mention the evil pleasure in doing a U turn on the track while the dual cabs do 5 pointers............

                  Nice shorty Shamal.

I've seen a lot of trucks struggle up this. It's been significantly eroded since I first did it stock in early 2016. This is about a year later.

Anyway, some of what a shorty can do. 18 seconds:

Yep, I first did that one with no experience in a mate's pretty standard 90 in 2WD towing a trailer.

Its a very different climb these days.

If you want to see a good illustration of how much tracks change, have a look at this collage. Same spot, 2013, 2015, 2017. The film above was early 2017 but it's even worse now.

This gives a good perspective, what it looks like driving up to it these days, the track coming up has also deteriorated:

PS You did well with a trailer, the main descent at the other end that comes out on the Newnes road wouldn't have changed much, it's all rock.

forgive me if im missing something but only advantage over LWB is ramp over yeah?

I dont mind the look of the shorties but I cant fit the amount of gear i want in a Longie . . .

Don't worry, this is not a demonstration of "why a SWB is better". It was a response to the comment that apparently some people, not necessarily on this board, consider the SWB not a "real 4wd". I wasn't aware that we shorties were considered this way so I just felt, like a couple of posts before me, that I'd like to show the shorty can go places.

Ramp over is better (and that advantage shouldn't be underestimated, I've had to drive over some rather large logs), turning circle, manoeuvrability on tight sections, quarter tonne less weight with the same power.

Stability is worse, you have to be very organised with your packing, I'd be nervous going down some of the extreme rock step slopes that I've seen LWB's handle. So there's swings and roundabouts.

Like a journo said back in the day about the SWB, too expensive for a young couple, too small for a family, perfect for some empty nesters.............., the main selling point for me wasn't the off road, it was the 3 tonne towing. Probably would've bought a LWB otherwise.
