  • XTREME LED SPORTS SERIES lights ??

I've done a quick search but couldn't see any specific posts. I notice ARB is selling spot and driving lights called the XTREME LED SPORTS SERIES. They have 3 CREE high powered LEDs each and they're available in spot and touring setups. They appear to sit in the ARB offerings between the old IPF driving lights and the Intensity LED ones, though for about $900-$1000 less per set than the latter.
I'm wondering if anyone's tried them, and if so, what your thoughts are?
    Cheers

Yup. I have a pair. I'm pretty happy with them - although I am a hard marker. I have always had touring lights fitted, not spots, but on this occasion I went with one of each. I'd probably go for two spots if I had the choice, and an LED bar later that could do the nearer spread. The Spread on the Touring isn't as good as I thought it would be. The angles are right - the depth it goes to is a bit weak.

They're good quality, have lasted being fitted to an ARB Bar through the Flinders, McDonnell Ranges and up into Kakadu. I've previously had 170 and 220 Light Force lights fitted to other cars, and these ones are better (in fact, wasn't a fan of the Lightforce 170s to the point that I ditched them and ended up with the 220 - but still found them pretty weak, despite all the reviews).

My best set was a pair of spread Hella's for $200 from AutoOne bought around 15 years ago, but hey.

Got any pics of them on CamJam?

Wonder how they compare to the 9" LED lights from 4wd supercentre.

Hopefully that works. Just installed a stainless steel insect/ stone screen as well - any thoughts on having it painted black in a way that won't chip off every time I pressure-wash it?

I'd add that although these are LED, they are equivalent to a very good pair of Halogen in performance, except for the fact that the white light is whiter. But then, you're paying around the price of the good pair of halogen.

I'd buy them again, if that makes a difference.

Thanks CamJam, though I was more thinking what the light output was with them turned on.

Ha! Sorry. No, none at night down the road. It'd be a sh*t photo on an iPhone anyway, and not really comparable to those shots of lights down the long dirt tracks they put in magazines. If it's that kind of comparison - it's better than the LightForce 220's I had on my previous car going down the same country roads at the same dark hour... There's sure to be comparisons online about the LF lights (everyone thinks they're great - maybe my two sets were just rubbish ones. Both were professionally installed with the relevant light force wiring loom too)

Thanks for your feedback CamJam. Sounds like you're happy with them for the money. I don't do a lot of night driving but it's good to have some extra lighting grunt when you need it, whether it's avoiding roos on a western highway or trying to find the camp when heading back down the beach at night at Fraser with a few tailor in the esky.
And with your stainless mesh, I reckon it looks pretty good as it is. It ties in nicely with the plastic chrome and will never show stone chips, as it would if it was painted.

Cheers for the feedback on the grill. I'm beginning to come to like it (really, not mind it) being silver. It's not like one of those toothy massive chrome things hanging off the front.

That's the Link I think - or it's the same thing. It fits easily and the steel is reasonably good (something I wasn't expecting). Major thing - it'll stop the stones and large bugs (or small bugs carrying stones I guess).

Sorry - didn't mean to highjack the thread at all on it.
