  • 2" lift Are Adjustable Control arms recommended ?

    Hi guys,

I have my Kakadu booked in this week for a 2" lift
They are going to play it by ear on the day to asses if new adjustable control arms are needed this is purely based on if they can get the required adjustment from the factory arms.

But are the factory arms worth keeping longevity wise with a lift or am I better off just having them replaced straight off the bat ?

    Hey,

It will depend on the open length of the struts that you are running. If you run 570-575mm you'll contact the ball joint on the coils at full droop. You can get away with this by using the old trick of rotating the coil so the arm sneaks in between windings.

The 150 OEM ball joint is located better and gives more caster than the 120 OEM ball joint, around 2.1deg max compared to around 1.5deg max on the 120 for a 2" lift.

2deg caster is ok, some will complain the Prado wanders a bit with just 2 deg, so you may want more.

After market arms will give you at least 3deg of caster and will alleviate any coil contact issues at droop. Several after market arms will also allow more droop than OEM, allowing the ball joint to droop past the OEM bind length of 575mm.

Just jack up your front end after the lift kit is installed and see how close your OEM arms/ball joints are to the coils. See how much caster you get out of your alignment. Then make your decision from there!

      Imo just don't go over 560- 565mm & 40ish lift.
Less travel less risk on front end components.
No aftermarket arms needed, genuine are very good.

        Thank guys,

Mark, they are fox 2.0 struts 0-3" lift not sure what the open lengths are

Anthony, is that measurement top of guard to bottom of 18" rim ?
The setup should be adjustable so they should be are to achieve those measurements
I'd rather sacrifice 10-20mm of lift than have dramas

          No.
It's full extension length, from centre of lower eye, to top of strut shaft, generally where the thread ends.

Had ordered an airbag man 2" kit to suit a Kakadu
Was paired with Fox shocks but now I am being told that they might be too long
