    Suspension knock

    Hi all
    Suspension knock driving me nuts. 2005 1KZ. Only makes a noise front left(suspected) on light undulations in road. Have changed tie rod end, had strut removed and reseated and it is STILL there. All bushes ( sway bar suspension etc all ok). Could it be shock? Suspension still stock. 164000 klms. Help!!!'

    Hi Dave
    Did the strut lower strut bush get checked while it was out?
    Yes it could be the strut faulty or a broken spring, strut top hat flogged out.

      You could always go put it over one of pedders shaker tables. Will be able to replicate it then. Costs 30-50 bucks.

            Check your left front body mount. The centre part of the rubber gets chewed out and the steel inner sleeve knocks on the body mount bracket.

              I know it sounds funny, but check the flare.

              Mine was loose, and I thought it was suspension. After I put some masking tape on the flare, I worked out it was that, so will need to replace clips.

                Hey Dave,

                Did you do the rack end when you did the tie rod?

                If not, this is possibly the culprit.

                You'll feel the rack end ball move in the cup on a shaker hoist, just grab it through the rubber boot.

                Not uncommon for rack ends to go one one side by 150,000km.

                  Voice of experience here, I was chasing the very knock the op has described for weeks. Drop the nuts off the front body mounts and remove the lower cushion, the inner circumference of the upper cushion wears away and the inner steel spacer catches on the mount bracket.
