I did go ahead with the lead crystal (120AH) and it is very good. I put a 160W nuclear power station on the roof at the same time and all is going to plan.

Interesting claims by the lead crystal club, 18 year service life, wider operating temperature range etc....but hard data over 18 years, even harder to find!

I have read reports of failures in 2-3 year period with minimal use. Take from that what you will.

Interesting electrolyte phase transition from liquid to solid during charging, but like all batteries, they are made from a bunch of different phases which eventually become electrochemically inactive through cycling/oxygen/dendritic growth of undesirable phases. Really just another fancy AGM.

Couldn't hurt to try one though, my AGM is down to 50% capacity after 7 years with minimal use and not a lot of maintenance!

You are correct that lead crystal is just a fancy AGM and that the claims of life seem far fetched but my main motivation was the cycle duty. Our previous AGM wasn't that old and hadn't been cycled that hard but it was rapidly declining. It needed replacement and I was able to get the lead crystal battery for around the same as a Fullriver AGM so thought why not? The solar feed makes a huge difference so I probably cannot make a direct comparison. My last AGM was a Ritar brand and I wont go there again!
