  • Advice on 150 Petrol

Had had my early 120 Grande (03 model) for 5 years now and its time to start looking for an upgrade. Never had any issues besides replacing the airbags late last year and one wheel bearing. The TEMS shocks have finally gone soft after 14 years and the suspension is a bit sad. Has been bulletproof towing 1000kg of Quad bikes / trailer plus another 800kg in the cabin up everything I have thrown at it. And only one small crack in the dash

Went into local dealer to get a price on a new VX petrol, there are none in the country and minimum 6 month wait if I order one as nobody buys petrols these days apparently . He was pushing hard for a diesel which I replied " If I wanted to gamble I would go to the casino" They also wanted to slap $5000 onto the diesel price as it was a special order.

So it looks like I have to find a second hand one somewhere (15/16 model), are there any issues with the newer version petrol over my older one? Only info I found is the dual VVTI vs single on mine and the extra 30 odd KW of power. The lack of threads in the 150 petrol section also confirms my choice to stay with the trusty V6.

The newer petrol is even better. I'd go for it. Steer clear of the diesels as they are super exxy to maintain. and sluggish as all hell.

There won't be any petrols when the next facelift arrives in a couple of months.

150,000 on my 150 V6 and no issues. Buy used and let the first owner take the depeciation hit from new.

First post here...Signed up for my first 4x4 today. 2010 v6 time to make some new weekend memories with the kids. From what I've read, and for my situation, the petrol looks the way to go.

Welcome. Yep, some would say you've made the right decision. 268K on my 06 V6 now, still runs like a new one.

Yeah mate they are awesome I went looking for one as the common fail has way too many problems 100k on my 150 v6 and is silky smooth and feels brand new. Not too bad on juice either I average 12.5lt 100km.

The only diesel I would buy is a 100 series with a 1HD, but be stuffed paying 40k for one flogged out with 400,000kms. I really rate the V6, nothing better than hauling 1500kg up moonbi range passing the oil burners with half the weight. With 241k on the clock I get around 13L/100 in town and 11 on the highway empty. If I cannot find a suitable 150 I will keep mine and do some upgrades.

2013 GXL V6 which I bought new, no regrets at all going the petrol option after previously owning an old style Toyota diesel 4x4 for over 20 years and 500,000kms. Maintenance is easy and I do my own, have a look under the bonnet, these engines are high tech but still quite simple to work on. I guess theres not much info in the petrol engine section of this forum simply because the owners of these vehicles are out there driving them, putting lots of trouble free kilometers on their vehicles.

I bought my 150 V6 about a year ago and it's great. Averages about 12 - 13 L/100 which isn't bad. I've owned petrol and diesel 4x4's and prefer petrols these days.

So I found two im interested in. A 2015 with 5 speed auto and a 2016 with the newer 6 speed. Pretty big price difference between the two, any big advantages of getting the 6 speed?

The 5 speed auto is the A750 transmission which is a proven performer with any bugs sorted out. The 6 speed auto is a new transmision and reading the posts in this forum it still has some way to go to catch up with the rock solid performance of previous 5 speed. The 5 speed works well in my 2013 never really wished I had a 6th gear, 2000rpm gives me around 110km/h which seems to be a real sweet spot with the V6 5speed auto configuration.

                              Regards....Mick
