  • Spot Light Wiring

    Hi all,
    I have a 1996 Toyota Prado KZJ90.
I want to put two spot lights on it but in New Zealand, it has to be wired so that they only work with the high beam lights.
To achieve this, I put a meter on the wires that connect the head light to get the power to run to the relay.
I found a wire that only shows power when high beam is on and connected my wire to this.
This works but for some reason - it will work on both high and low beam.
I have read somewhere that the lights may be wired positive earth but unsure if that is right or has anything to do with it.
So I need to change the wiring so it will only work with high beam.
Anyone know the best place to connect up the wire so that it will only work with high beam ?

Have a look at this thread, the colours on yours will more than likely be different but the theory will be the same

I would compare the voltage of your negative coil wire of the relay to the negative battery wire. But it sounds like you have tapped into either low beam or parkers.
