I currently have 2 child seats fitted in the 2nd row, a forward facing seat on driver's side and rearward facing seat on the passenger side. I want to move the rearward facing passenger side seat to the middle for an upcoming trip to make room for an adult passenger in the rear, however I am having trouble with the installation. It is a tight fit, but the biggest issue I have is that the seat belts are not locking seat belts. (I believe Toyota calls this an Auto Locking Retractor (ALR) seat belt). On every car I have owned prior to the Prado I could pull the seat belt out fully to engage the auto lock mechanism that is used to keep the child seat in nice and tight without the seat belt feeding back out. I can't do that with the Prado so I have to use a gated buckle to lock the shoulder strap and the waist lash together. This makes the installation so much more difficult and it is very hard to get the belt tight enough for it to be considered a safe installation. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on installation of the child seat to the middle of the second row?
P.S. I have installed many child seats int he past so I would consider myself a seasoned novice at this. I have never fitted a child seat to the middle though!
P.S. Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, the PP search function is not working at the moment for some reason.
