  • Fog light upgrade issue

    Hey all.

I have a 2014 150 series GXL prado, the facelift model. Last year I had an ARB summit bullbar installed, I chose not to get the fog lights installed with the bullbar at the time to save a bit of money, so they just left the blanking plates over the fog light holes in the bullbar.

This year I purchased these: https://www.stedi.com.au/arb-summit-...ement-kit.html
These are the round type of fog lights I had before I had the bar installed, and they worked: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...7-07%29_01.jpg

Now I tried to install them today, so first thing I did after I took off the necessary covers from the bar etc, was find the plugs from the old fog lights that ARB removed when they cut the front panel to install the bullbar, but no matter where I looked, I could not find them...
Are they right in front of me and I have completely missed them? I had the factory fog lights before, and they worked, so the wiring must be there somewhere, but I cannot find a matching female HB4 plug anywhere nearby. I followed all the wires in the wiring loom around the headlights in the engine bay, I can see where they spliced in for the LED indicator and DRL on the bar, but nothing else. It doesn't look like any wiring was removed either.

Am I going mad, or are these wires run a completely different way, and were likely shoved out of the way or something? They are no where to be seen. I have attached two pictures from underneath each side of the bar where the lights are supposed to go (the first pic shows some shiny cabling at the back that has been cable tied, this is for my spotlights though). I can take more if needed.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Well that sucks.

I did the same thing. Although, I told ARB (kilsyth) that I was going to install aftermarket fogs and made sure they left the plugs in situ.

Yours seem to have vanished. I would ask the installer.

Here is a link to my thread on the stedi FOG light FYI

Yeah it's weird. I don't really know why they would have done anything else with the cables besides tie them out of the way or something.

I saw your post earlier, do you happen to have a picture that shows where the wires/conduit for the fog light plugs goes back into the main wiring loom/conduit, or the wire colours? Just thinking it may help to try trace the wires again. If not I'll probably ask ARB in Pakenham who did the install.

      Thanks

Sorry mate, I don't have any photos. The cables/plugs were very obvious though. Hanging there asking to be plugged in.

I reckon one of the white plug in the first picture is where fog light genuine wiring goes to. Unclip the plug and you will find 4 wires in it. I reckon that what you need. They remove the wiring from that plug.

You are exactly right! I went down to ARB Pakenham today, they had a look and showed me what the deal was. The fog light cables are in a plug with 4 wires going to it, which can be seen in one of my first pics, it hangs near where the original fog light would have been on the passenger side. This threw me off a bit as I was looking for 2x 2 pin HB4 plugs, maybe an adaptor/harness has gone missing, I'm not sure.

Anyway, I tested the pins on the plug, and sure enough they have 12v when the fog light switch is on, 0v when it is off. 2 positive pins (white wires), 2 negative pins (white/black wires), I'm guessing for the two lights.

I plan on splicing into those wires to add the HB4 plugs for the fog lights to plug into. I'll try remember to post a picture in a week or two once I have the plugs, so hopefully this can help someone else in the future if they end up in the same situation.

            Thanks!

Glad you worked it out. Shame the adaptor is AWOL. Makes it so much easier. Having said that you'll probably get a more secure connection doing it your way. I had issues with the HB4 plugs.
