              • G'Day

As per the first post my baby is:

                Model: Grande D4D
                Year: 2008
                Colour: Pearl White

Accessories: ARB colour coded bar & winch, dual batteries, Safari Snorkel, Korr lightbar, frontrunner roofrack, rooftop tent, outback drawers, Tough Dog 2" lift (spacers on original airbag sensors plus AMTS Bag Spacer), Cooper 275/70 ST max on steel rims, AMTS rear wheel spacer and setup light, TJM compressor under bonnet with AMTS bracket, wetseat covers

                Wishlist: Side steps, lockers, exhaust

How have you set your Prado up? The car was bought to have a nice luxurious ride around town yet still have the ability for serious 4WDing. The Grande was the perfect choice have best of both worlds and still the ability to modify. We now run 2 sets of wheels; the larger Coopers above (6) for offroad and the rest of the time some Cooper AT3s on the original rims. We have a small van we tow for quick getaways and then the rooftop for the big trips to come....Cape York 2016 is the plan.

For the eagle eyed you will see I have been a member since 2011, however I have only recently got into the forum. I wish I have done it years ago, fantastic forum with an endless supply of information. Well done to all, especially the prolific posters I keep seeing in all the threads.

Hopefully I can add some value to the site with our experiences...

                Drew

PS Haven't worked out how to post a pic yet, hopefully one comes through with my signature

                • I would just like to say a big HELLO to all of the Pradopoint members and admin,

                  A bit about me; 37 years old, married, 2 girls 9 & 6, and own a 95 series Prado.

I enjoy 4wding and camping with the family.
My KZJ95 has just reached 500,000kms, and am looking at upgrading the engine to a 1KDFTV as the old engine struggles towing my 2014 Jayco Flamingo Outback camper up any type of hill!

                  Model: KZJ95 (RV)
                  Year: 2000
                  Colour: Silver
                  Km's: 500,000
Accessories: ARB Bullbar, Cargo barrier, Drawer system with Engel fridge, 2" Tough dog suspension, Snorkel, 3" mandrel Exhaust, D-Tronic computer & 14 PSI, Dual Battery, A-pillar pod with boost and volt meters, Tow Bar, Roof Racks with cage.
Wish-list: Update the old 1KZTE with 1KDFTV and fit electric windows from a GXL into the old RV.

                  • Hi Folks,

I have just recently got into caravanning and was towing with a diesel VW tiguan. Tows good but no room inside it and a tad light. Our number one son is a Prado fan, he just got out of an older GXL and into a new 2.8. GXL. I was so tempted to buy his old car but hey you only live once so last week I collected a new 2.8 GXL in Metal Storm. (Missus says, "Your next car will be a hearse"
Looking forward to seeing a lot more of the sunburnt country.

                        • hi all, we have just bought a 2006 120 series vx from a lovely first-owner widow who was sad to see it go but couldn't justify a 'big car' now she is on her own. we love it - our 1996 pajero while still running very well is becoming hard to get parts for and we wanted a more reliable tug to tow the camper and boat with and on our way past the 'urban saleyard' we spotted this one and now its ours.

I do have question first up though - today we went for a drive and any time under acceleration there was a chatter on the drivers side in time with the engine revs that wasn't there before. I have done a search but only found an article on changing over to high octane fuel (we filled it up late last week with 98) - we don't know what fuel the previous owners used but it seems there can be some issues with timing in the prado petrol engine if one suddenly changes up to 98 from standard unleaded (source - Land Cruiser Owners On Line - http://www.lcool.org/technical/prado...tane_fuel.html ). Before we rush off to toyota can anyone confirm if this could be a contributor?

                          cheers,
                          ross

                          • Nothing to do Ross with fuel. You will also find it was probably there before but you didn't notice it and had your window up. You were probably more aware now you own it. My bet it's the exhaust manifolds fluttering away like they do under acceleration like a leaking exhaust manifold. Extremely common in all the V6's worse on the first of them. Toyota supposedly modified them in 2004 but they all do it, some more then others. Don't worry about it just turn the tunes up and enjoy. If you were closer I'd let you take mine for a drive and you will hear the same thing. Mine is 05 my mates is 08 and does it as well..... Cheers Steve

                            • thanks steve, it ended up being the rubber cable gland in the firewall on the drivers side - my lovely other half helped me pull a cable through it under considerable duress yesterday (sorry but standard 15A/4mm cable to the rear accessory outlet isn't up to supporting a fridge) and in the process pulled this out of the firewall and only after I took the newer larger auxiliary battery out thinking I had done something wrong and put it back in did I see it. I believe you are right about the exhaust - its amazing how much noise is under that bonnet!!!
