    Re: Fuel consumption and performance

got any more info on this on? i.e. if you don't mind telling all, how much did it set you back? and does it make much extra noise?[/quote]

Sorry mate, mine was free! Mercury mufflers used my car for the pattern so they can mass produce bolt on parts. They have wharehouses in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia. Look them up on the net or in the yellow pages and they can give you a fitter to supply (or fit) the parts in your area. I was a bit dissapointed that there is no extra exhaust noise, but I've had louder exhausts on other cars and was sick of having ringing ears ofter a long trip. So I guess that this is a blessing in disguise. You can only just hear the exhaust under hard acceleration with the drivers window down.
I did another milage test the other day with 100% city driving 4000klms after oil change and using Volume Plus diesel which is blended with biodiesel, I did 1341klms. I filled the tank which took 166L so I probably could have gone maybe another 100k's. What sort of milage is everyone else getting? I would be interested to hear what milage other people are getting. If I'm getting 10% better fuel economy the cost of the exhaust could have been recovered in maybe 10 refills. (And the extra stomp under the right foot isn't bad either)

ok, here's my stats from day 1 of ownership.

has every fill for the last 12 months.

the two negative distance to empty (dte) entries were from the two times that i didn't fill it to the top so i combined two fills.

      http://www.hgfs.net/stuff/pradostats.xls

      * 2003 TD GXL.
      * Stock tires with minimal traction for first 9,000k's, then Cooper ATR's for the rest.
      * stone deflectors on the front and dust deflector on the back.
      * combination of highway and city driving, combination of flogging it and taking it easy
      * the last tank was 90% city driving, but i took the advice of a member here who said he never lets the revs over 2000, so i gave that a go with the and the numbers were not too bad.
      * only gone above 13l/100k's twice. the first time i'm not sure why (probably a "flog it" tank), the second time included a trip to landcruiser park.

              Thats some interesting figures Bolgo.
I honestly thought it would have been better.

We are planning for a trip to sydney for a wedding in feb next year and I was planning it at 12 to 13 Lts/100Kms.

The average with wife,2 kids, Camper trailer filled up too much as it was its first big outing and we got abut 10 to 11 per 100.
That was Mandurah to pemberton and into warren river area (yeagerup Dunes) and back. About 900 K before the tanks changed over and the the rest about town when we got back.

Maybe less wind resistance towing our soft floor camper than your boat?

I might rethink my trips fuel budget , mmmmmmmmm..

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

                hmm
never seen close to 10 or 11l/100 even when not towing

have dtronic fitted, whether this effects fuel economy or not hard to say

4 speed auto likely to be a negative

not a heavy boat, full of kit, driven pretty conservatively 95-100 backing off on hills

interesting to see what new diesel and 5 speed auto get

Not sure if you're still around Prado3 but having had this one on for a while now how's the fuel stats been going?

                    Hi folks,

I'm getting between 10.1 and 15.1 L/100km. On my last trip I got 10.1 (mostly Pacific Hwy). For local Sydney I'm getting average 13.5.

When I had the camper trailer (Coromal Silhouette - 1200kg) I was getting between 12.0 to 16.2. Average was about 13.5, but mostly sealed highways, which is the same as I'm getting around town without the CT. I suspect I got ripped off (short measured) on the 16.2 as I've never even come close, even with the CT. I refuelled somewhere I don't normally buy from.

                      Fuel Consumption

When you guys quote fuel consumption, do you do your own calculations or do you use the onboard computer info? Any idea how accurate the onboard figures are?

                        Gidday Saskia,

I use a program on my PDA called Teal Auto. It's a comprehensive log book and vehicle costs/service tracking system which I bought to track my Prado (was on a lease, but I've since bought it).

Teal Auto automatically calculates any number of parameters, including fuel consumption. My Prado is a GXL, hence has no on-board computer.

Addy, it's a 2005 (Nov) 3l TDI. Was fairly happy with the result. On the same trip one of my mates had a 2000 Pajero Petrol with trailer and did 150 litres there and 150 back. Thirsty bit of work. He was having a decent bleat and was most surprised at the Prado. Another guy had a 2006 Pajero Diesel with trailer and ran out at Millmerran. I still had about 500k's left. Same road, same heat and about the same trailer weight.
